Tablet Mounts: Car, Truck, Gym and Home

Mounting a tablet is a different problem from mounting a phone. Tablets are heavier, larger, and used in a wider range of situations. A phone mount rated for a 7-ounce smartphone is not the right choice for a 1.5-pound iPad Pro. The right tablet mount depends on where the device will live: in a vehicle, at a workstation, in a medical or industrial setting, or somewhere around the home. Start with the section that matches your situation.

In the Vehicle

Vehicle tablet mounting is mostly a passenger and rear-seat problem. Tablets are too large for standard phone vent or windshield mounts in most cars, which means headrest, cup holder, seat bolt, and CD slot positions are the practical options for the majority of vehicles. Truck and commercial rig installs have their own requirements covered separately below.

When considering options for a tablet mount, ensure you choose one that fits securely and safely in your vehicle.

Guide Covers
Best Tablet Mounts for Car or SUV All in-vehicle positions covered by location: headrest, CD slot, windshield, cup holder
Car Headrest Tablet Mounts Rear-seat passenger use; kids in the back seat; iPad and Galaxy Tab sizing
Cup Holder Tablet Mounts Front-seat positioning without windshield or dash involvement
Seat Bolt Mounts Permanent low-position installs; rideshare, delivery, and fleet use
Tablet Mounts for Trucks and Rigs Semi trucks and heavy rigs; ELD compliance; windshield, drill-base, and floor positions
ELD Mandate Tablet Mounts FMCSA electronic logging device requirements; compliant mounting positions
Airplane Tablet Mounts Tray table and seat-back options for hands-free viewing on flights
Best Nintendo Switch Car Mounts Headrest and travel mounts for gaming on road trips

Note on vent mounts and tablets: Standard phone air vent mounts are not designed for tablet weight. Even cradles marketed for tablets will put enough lateral pressure on vent blades to warp or crack them over time. For anything larger than a phone, use a headrest, CD slot, cup holder, or windshield mount.

Workplace and Specialty Use

Commercial and institutional tablet mounting has requirements that consumer mounts cannot meet. Vibration resistance, permanent installation, thick-case compatibility, and compliance with regulatory positioning standards all push these installs into a different product tier. The guides below cover the most common scenarios.

Home, Fitness, and Lifestyle

Tablet mounting around the home covers a wide range of surfaces and situations. The common thread is that most of these installs are semi-permanent or fully portable, and the mounting approach depends more on the surface than the tablet itself.
