My name is Mike, and I have spent more than 20 years in the mount industry – not writing about it from the sidelines, but actually living it. Before MountGuys.com existed, I ran a company that sold car mounts for Sirius satellite radios. That business grew into something I never expected: a full-scale operation with a 3,000 square foot warehouse dedicated entirely to stocking and shipping mounts of every kind imaginable.We sold mounts for phones, tablets, GPS units, radios, cameras, and anything else people needed to secure in a vehicle, on a motorcycle, on a boat, or around the home. I handled more mounting hardware during those years than most people will ever see in a lifetime.
From Warehouse to Website
After years of running a high-volume ecommerce operation, I eventually hit a wall. The business had grown large enough that the joy of the niche was getting buried under logistics. I made the decision to scale down dramatically, and the ecommerce site I had built over the years evolved into what you are reading now: MountGuys.com.
The site is still about mounts but in a different format. Instead of shipping them, I write about them. I help people figure out which mount is actually worth buying for their specific vehicle, device, or situation, without having to wade through pages of vague spec sheets and paid reviews.
How I Choose What to Recommend
I have personally used many of the products I recommend on this site. Two decades of hands-on experience in the industry means I have handled, tested, and evaluated more mounts than I can count. Where I have not personally tested a specific product (it is impossible to test every mount for every vehicle and every motorcycle on the market) I rely on my deep industry knowledge, verified buyer feedback, and a clear understanding of what separates a quality mounting solution from a cheap one.
Why I Still Do This
I scaled down the business because I was burned out. But I never lost interest in the industry itself. Mounting technology has evolved significantly. We went from Sirius Radio and a Garmin GPS to MagSafe, Qi2 wireless charging mounts and integrated dash cam mounts. I enjoy keeping up with where things are heading. This site lets me stay connected to a niche I built part of my career around, without the overhead of a warehouse operation.
