My name is Mike. I have spent more than 20 years in the mount industry, not writing about it from the sidelines, but actually living it. Before MountGuys.com became a publication, it was a business: a full-scale ecommerce operation with a 3,000 square foot warehouse dedicated entirely to stocking and shipping mounting hardware of every kind. We moved hundreds of thousands of shipments over the years, covering mounts for phones, tablets, GPS units, satellite radios, cameras, and anything else people needed to secure in a vehicle, on a motorcycle, on a boat, or around the home.

The eBay store attached to that operation accumulated over 250,000 positive feedbacks, which is a number that only comes from years of handling real orders from real customers who expected products to arrive correctly and work as described.

From Warehouse to Website

After years of running a high-volume operation, I made the decision to scale down. The logistics had grown large enough that the part I actually enjoyed, understanding the products and helping people find the right one, was getting buried under warehouse management and fulfillment. MountGuys.com evolved from that ecommerce business into what it is now: a publication focused entirely on mount research and recommendations.

The subject matter is the same. The format is different. Instead of shipping mounts, I write about them. The goal is to help people figure out which mount is actually worth buying for their specific vehicle, device, or situation, without wading through vague spec sheets and reviews written by people who have never held the product.

How I Evaluate Products

I have personally used many of the products recommended on this site. Two decades of commercial experience in the mount industry means I have handled, installed, and evaluated more mounting hardware than most people will encounter in a lifetime. I know what separates a quality mount from a cheap one before I read a single review, because I spent years buying inventory, returning defective stock, and fielding customer complaints about products that failed in the field.

Where I have not personally tested a specific product, I rely on that industry knowledge, verified buyer feedback patterns, and direct familiarity with the manufacturers and product lines involved.

Why I Still Do This

I scaled down the warehouse business because the overhead had outgrown the enjoyment. But I never lost interest in the niche itself. Mounting technology has moved considerably since the early days of Sirius satellite radio cradles and suction-cup Garmin mounts. MagSafe, Qi2 wireless charging, integrated dash cam mounts, and modular kayak track systems are all developments I have followed closely because the underlying engineering questions are the same ones I was asking twenty years ago: does it hold, does it fail, and is it worth the money.

This site lets me stay connected to an industry I spent a significant part of my career building, without the overhead of a fulfillment operation.
