The Porsche Cayenne is a nice wide SUV. When it comes to mounting anything, an article starting with nice and wide is typically a clue that it won’t be too hard to find good places to mount a phone, GPS or tablet. However, the Porsche Cayenne isn’t an ordinary SUV and this isn’t going to be easy.
We previously evaluated mounts for an Porsche Macan. That was a bit of a challenge given the smaller vehicle size but the larger dimensions of the Audi Q8 made this much easier.
Porsche Cayenne Mount Analysis
Our typical interior photo of the vehicle accompanies this article. Nothing unusual about the windshield, so we know that location is going to work fine. We also note wide horizontal vent slats, however they are located in the lower section of the center console. Kind of bazaar and this isn’t going to work. The dash has gigantic vents and a dial coming out of it, so much for a dash mount. Maybe a CD mount? Can’t find one.
The cup holders are in a decent location so that might work for a tablet or phone as long as it doesn’t need to be referenced while driving. Beats keeping it on the passenger seat.
Windshield Mounts for a Porsche Cayenne
The best location for a phone mount is easily the windshield. Consider the iOttie Easy One Touch 2 Car Mount for SmartPhones. This mount features an extendable base combined with an expandable cradle. Unlike many similar mounts, the iOttie Easy One Touch 2 has a two-inch extension feature. Nice to have with the larger Porsche Cayenne where the reach to the windshield is a little more than most vehicles. The included cradle expands to 3.2 inches by pressing the buttons on each side. This is large enough to hold most phones.
For those in love with their Garmin device, the Arkon Windshield Dash Garmin Nuvi Suction Mount is an old favorite of mine. All Garmin vehicle GPS units made over the past ten plus years include a custom cradle that has a 17mm socket on the back. This mount has a 17mm ball. Now snap the Garmin cradle onto the 17mm ball and you are ready to go. This mount comes with a 2-year manufacturer warranty.
We reviewed the Arkon GPS Mount mount in detail several years ago and have used it in a few vehicles successfully. It’s a solid mount that holds up very well to daily use.
Tablets and Cup Holder Mounts Work
The cup holders are located in a nice position for mounting a tablet. This location is good for apps that do not require viewing while driving. So music apps are ok. GPS apps, not so much. Set the app up prior to your drive.
On the mounting end, consider the iKross Cup Holder Mount for Tablets and Phones. These mounts include a cradle for a phone and another for a tablet. You will see a lot of mounts on the market for tablets or cell phones. This is the only car mount kit known to us that offers two different cradles, one for the phone, the other for the tablet. The tablet cradle will hold devices from 7 to 10.2 inches. You can also use this for a phone assuming the apps don’t need to be seen while driving.
Wrapping It Up
The Porsche Cayenne was a surprising challenge for mounting a device. The only good location is the windshield for a phone or GPS. However, for apps where you don’t need to refer to it while driving, a cup holder mount should work well.
