Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Porsche Macan

Porsche MacanThe Porsche Macan is an extraordinarily nice SUV.  Finding places to mount a phone, tablet or GPS isn’t the easiest task in the world of SUVs.  We will spend most of the article space on smartphone mounts for a Porsche Macan but will also touch on mounting a Garmin GPS and a tablet.

Our typical photo of the interior of the vehicle is included with this article.  You can begin to see some of the challenges in mounting locations.

Mounting Locations on the Porsche Macan

Let’s start with what works well.  The windshield is an easy one and will work fine for a phone.  The dash is large and flat so that will work too.  Those are the easy locations.

The center air vents are located near the bottom of the dash.  Never saw that location before and this will negate that location from mounting eligibility.  Too low to see anything.  The cup holders are set back too far to be of practical use but could make a decent location for a tablet if not needing to see it while driving.  The seat bolts are not easily accessible.  So much for that location.  Lastly, there is no CD player in the 2019 model.  No CD player mount for you.

Windshield Mounts for the Porsche Macan

The windshield is probably the best location for a smartphone or GPS in a Porsche Macan.  It’s a further reach from the driver’s seat versus most SUVs.  Given the longer reach, we recommend mounts that extend towards the driver versus traditional stationary mounts.

The iOttie Easy One Touch 5 Car Mount for SmartPhones has an extendable mounting base combined with an expandable cradle.  Unlike stationary mounts, the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 has an 8-inch extension feature.  This extension is a welcome and needed feature on the Land Rover Discovery.  The included cradle expands by pressing the buttons on each side.  This is large enough to hold most phones.

We don’t run into many vehicle specific mounts but consider the LUNQIN Car Phone Holder for 2015-2023 Porsche Macan. This mount is made specifically for this vehicle. It attaches to the front of the dash.

Touching on a GPS mount, there’s a good chance that you won’t be needing your trusty Garmin, as the Porsche Macan likely has a GPS or you can use Apple CarPlay.  For those wanting to stick with their Garmin GPS, consider this Arkon Windshield Mount.  This is an inexpensive option that has been around for along time and has proven itself to be a trusty mount.

Other Mounts for the Porsche Macan

The cup holders can be used to hold a tablet.  Be aware the position of the cup holder means they cannot be used for an app that needs to be seen while driving such as a GPS app.  It’s adequate for holding your tablet and keeping it off the passenger seat.  Use it for an audio app that is setup prior to driving and not needing to be accessed while driving.

Consider the Cup Holder Mount for Tablets and Phones.  This mount includes two different cradles and has an extended neck to make the mount a little higher than others.  One for a phone and another for a tablet.  The mount is adjustable and solidly made to easily handle the weight of your tablet.  You will see a lot of mounts on the market for tablets or cell phones.  This is the only car mounts that offers two different cradles, one for the phone, the other for the tablet.  The tablet cradle will hold devices up to 12.9 inches.

Again, remember the cup holder mounting location is not well suited for apps that need to be seen while driving.  Use the windshield or dash locations for those types of apps.

If looking to entertain the back seat passengers with a tablet or smartphone, consider a headrest mount.  We covered a variety of head rest mounts in our article entitled Car Headrest Mounts for Tablets, Phones or Cameras.

In summary, the windshield and dash are the best locations for mounting a phone or GPS.  The cup holders provide a secondary mounting location for a tablet.  The vents, CD player and seat bolts are not going to work well in this vehicle.
