Lexus UX 200 and UX 250H Phone, Tablet and GPS Mounts

Lexus UX 200 InteriorThe Lexus UX is a sub-compact SUV that’s surprisingly easy to find a good mount location.  You can even mount a small tablet in the proper location.

We previously looked at a Lexus RX 350 and Lexus NX 300.  The larger RX was one of the easiest vehicles to mount a device and the NX was more difficult.  The Lexus UX calls closer to the NX due to the size limitations inherent to the smaller SUV.

Unlike the Lexus RX, this model does not have a dedicated phone slot in the middle console but there is a wireless charging compartment that could make a good spot if you don’t need to access it while driving.  However tablets, GPS and phones that need to be accessed while driving might benefit from a mount.

The Lexus UX currently comes in a few different models including the UX 200 and UX 250H.  This discussion and mount recommendations will apply to both as the interior is substantially the same.

Lexus UX Mount Discussion

It’s a sub-compact SUV.  Depending upon the size of the driver (and potential passenger) it can be a bit cramped and this has an impact on the best mounting location.  However, even with two occupants, there are a few good spots.

The Lexus UX has an easy to reach windshield and will be a good choice for a phone or GPS.  The vents are horizontal and in an excellent location as it’s at the right place for a phone using a navigation app.  However, the slats are strangely shaped.  There are two thinly spaced slats at the middle so any mount that’s used needs to open sufficiently to attach these slats.

The vehicle has a CD player that’s located in a place that makes it difficult to use for a mount point.  The seat bolts are not easily accessible.

There are a pair of cup holders within the middle console that make for a passable mount point for a phone or tablet.

There is a large infotainment display located above the center air vents but because it’s a small SUV, you can use the dash space to the right of this display.  It’s not optimal, but it’s doable.

Now, let’s take a look at a few specific mounts that should work well in the Lexus UX 200 or 250H.  The attached photo is from the interior of a 2021 model.

Windshield and Vent Mount Recommendations for a Lexus UX

The vent is my favorite location for a phone or GPS in this vehicle.  The middle vents sit at a perfect position for the driver’s eye.  The phone is going to work best in landscape mode on the vents.

We like the Andobil Air Vent Mount.  This mount can be used to hold most phone models with or without a case.  The ball and socket design facilitates a 360 degree rotation.  The included cradle opens to accommodate phones up to 3.75 inches wide.  The mount uses a unique locking clip to securely attach to horizontal and vertical vents.

Apple iPhone owners can check into the Andobil MagSafe Air Vent Mount which is the same mount but with a magnetic adapter that pairs perfectly.

We took a closer look at the Andobil car air vent mount awhile back and came away pleasantly suprised.

The windshield is probably the most popular location in practically any vehicle.  With a short reach to the windshield on the UX, this is a good location.

Consider the Arkon MegaGrip Suction Cup Windshield and Dash Mount.  The mount features adjustment points at the midpoint and tip, a vacuum locked suction cup and pivoting arm.  The phone can swivel into any orientation.  The expandable cradle opens to 3.4 inches and will hold most phones with or without cases.

This mount includes an 80mm adhesive disk that can be adhered to the dash.  The suction cup will stick to it like it does on the windshield.  On the UX, this will fit best to the right of the infotainment display but not too far away from the driver.

Like the previously recommended vent mount, remove the cradle and adapter from the above mount to hold a Garmin GPS.  The ball is 17mm in diameter.  It will snap right into the socket on the back of any cradle from a Garmin automotive GPS like a Nuvi or Drive.

Other Mount Recommendations for a Lexus UX

A pair of cup holders are located towards the front of the center console.  The right most cup holder can be considered as the best location for mounting a small tablet.  This location should only be used for devices that do not need to be accessed while driving.  A large tablet such as a full sized iPad will not fit in the UX.

A mount with a longer extended mounting arm will work best to clear the gear shift and place it in a good location.

Consider the Cup Holder Mount for Tablets and Phones.  This mount includes two different cradles and has an extended neck to make the mount a little higher than others.  One for a phone and another for a tablet.  The mount is adjustable and solidly made to easily handle the weight of your tablet.  You will see a lot of mounts on the market for tablets or cell phones.  This is the only car mounts that offers two different cradles, one for the phone, the other for the tablet.  The tablet cradle will hold devices up to 12.9 inches but we suggest limiting it to nothing larger than an iPad Mini.

Lexus UX Mounting Summary

Surprisingly, the Lexus UX is an easy vehicle for finding a mount.  The windshield, dash, vent and cup holder are good choices with the latter working best for a small tablet.  The lack of an accessible seat bolt rules out that location. The CD player location makes it a poor candidate as well.
