The Audi RS5 is one of the more difficult vehicles to mount a phone in. That large MMI display rising up from the center console blocks the windshield as a mounting option and rules out the top of the dash as well. What looks like a wide-open interior on paper turns into a crowded obstacle course once you start thinking about where a phone actually fits.

The good news is that the aftermarket has caught up. Custom-fit mounts designed around the RS5’s specific interior geometry take the guesswork out of placement entirely. The best of them attach to the air vent or clip to the navigation screen frame without drilling, using adhesives, or permanently altering anything. For 2017-and-newer RS5 owners especially, there are several strong options worth knowing about.

Why the RS5 Is Tricky to Mount In

The RS5 shares its platform and most of its interior architecture with the A5 and S5, which means it carries the same mounting challenges those cars do. The MMI infotainment display protrudes significantly from the center console in a way that blocks sightlines. Mounting a phone on the windshield puts it directly in front of or beside the screen, creating visual clutter and blocking more of your forward view than you want. The top of the dash is similarly compromised.

The air vents, however, are positioned well on the RS5. The horizontal slats on the center vents accept a standard vent clip without issue, and a mount placed there stays out of the way of the display while keeping the phone in a natural glance-down position. For the 2018-and-newer RS5 specifically, custom mounts designed around the RS5/A5/S5 interior are a better solution than universal clips because they use the vehicle’s own geometry as an anchor point.

Tip: The RS5 uses the same B9 platform interior as the A4, A5, S4, and S5 from 2017 onward. Any mount labeled for those models will fit the RS5 from the same generation.

BEERTE MagSafe Vent Mount for Audi A4/A5/S5/RS5 (2017–present)

BEERTE has been building vehicle-specific mounts for nearly a decade and their Audi A4/A5/RS5 MagSafe vent mount is one of the better custom-fit options on the market right now. The base is 3D-scanned from actual RS5/A5/A4 interior dimensions, so it seats flush against the vent housing without relying on generic spring clips. It attaches in seconds without tools.

The magnetic holding power comes from 20 upgraded N52 magnets built into the mount head. For iPhone 12 through iPhone 16 series owners, the phone snaps directly into place via MagSafe. Android users or iPhone owners without a MagSafe case can use the included metal plate, which sticks to the back of a case and connects magnetically the same way. The 360-degree ball joint lets you dial in portrait or landscape as needed.

One thing worth noting: the mount sits at the vent, which means it does not obstruct the MMI screen or block airflow. It handles bumpy roads well, and the closed magnetic field design keeps it from interfering with navigation signals.

Note: Confirm your RS5’s production year before ordering. This mount covers 2017-present A4/S4/A5/S5/RS4/RS5 — different years have different base versions. BEERTE lists compatible models on the product page.

MaserWeller Screen-Clip Mount for Audi RS5 (2020–present)

For RS5 owners with the updated 10.1-inch MMI screen found in 2020-and-newer models, the MaserWeller mount takes a different approach. Rather than attaching to the vent, it clips to the frame of the navigation screen itself using a precision-fit bracket that was designed specifically for this generation of Audi interior. Installation does not involve tools, adhesives, or any permanent modification to the vehicle.

The phone sits above and adjacent to the screen at a natural viewing angle without blocking the display. MagSafe is fully supported for iPhone 12 through 16 series, and an included metal ring adapter extends compatibility to any Android phone. The 360-degree rotation head covers both portrait and landscape orientations.

The screen-clip mounting style is particularly well-suited to the RS5’s interior because it sidesteps the vent-blocking issue entirely and places the phone right in the driver’s sightline without adding clutter to the dash. This one is specific to the 10.1-inch screen generation — verify your trim level and year before ordering.

LUNQIN Gravity Auto-Lock Vent Mount for Audi RS5 (2017–present)

LUNQIN’s mount for the 2017-present A4/S4/A5/S5/RS4/RS5 uses a gravity-based clamping mechanism rather than magnets. You slide your phone into the cradle and the arms automatically close and lock around it. No button to press, no extra step. Removing it requires a simple press of the side lever, which you can do one-handed.

The base is specific to this generation of Audi’s B9 platform, which means it fits the RS5’s vent housing precisely without any wobble or shimmy. The cradle accommodates phones up to 3 inches wide including thick cases, and the ball joint allows 360-degree rotation. LUNQIN’s design keeps the phone slightly elevated, which helps avoid obscuring the MMI screen below.

The gravity mechanism is the main differentiator here. If you switch phones regularly, share the car, or just prefer not to deal with magnetic compatibility questions, a gravity cradle removes those variables. Android users in particular often find this approach cleaner than the metal-plate workaround required by magnetic mounts.

Andobil Air Vent Mount (Universal Option)

If you prefer a mount that travels with you from car to car rather than staying in the RS5 permanently, the Andobil air vent mount is worth considering. It uses a locking clip mechanism that grips both horizontal and vertical vent slats, and the ball-and-socket head provides 360-degree rotation and pivot. The cradle opens to hold phones up to 3.75 inches wide with or without a case.

The Andobil works on the RS5’s center vents without modification. The tradeoff versus a custom-fit mount is that it relies on the spring clip to stay in place rather than using the vehicle’s own geometry as an anchor, but Andobil’s clip design is among the more secure in the universal category. It also costs less than the custom-fit options, which makes it a reasonable choice if you want flexibility across multiple vehicles.

iPhone owners who want a magnetic version can look at the Andobil MagSafe Air Vent Mount, which uses the same vent clip design with a magnetic adapter that pairs directly with MagSafe iPhones.

What to Know Before You Buy

The most important decision when mounting a phone in the RS5 is whether to go custom-fit or universal. Custom-fit mounts built around the B9 platform (A4/A5/S4/S5/RS4/RS5 from 2017 onward) will always hold more securely and look cleaner because they’re using the car’s own contours as an anchor. They also tend to position the phone better relative to the MMI screen. The only catch is that they’re year-and-model-specific, so verify before ordering.

Universal vent clips like the Andobil are a solid fallback if you share the car, move frequently between vehicles, or want the option to take the mount with you. They’re also a reasonable choice for pre-2017 RS5 owners where fewer custom-fit options exist.

On the windshield and dash: skip both. The MMI screen makes the windshield a poor mounting surface on the RS5, and the dash is too far from the driver to be practical without an extended arm. Vent and screen-clip mounts are the right solution for this vehicle.
