The Audi Q8 is a nice wide SUV. When it comes to mounting anything, an article starting with nice and wide is typically a clue that it won’t be too hard to find good places to mount a phone, GPS or tablet. The Audi Q8 fits that mold.
We previously evaluated mounts for an Audi Q3. That was a bit of a challenge given the smaller vehicle size but the larger dimensions of the Audi Q8 made this much easier.
Mount Analysis
Our typical interior photo of the vehicle accompanies this article. Nothing unusual about the windshield, so we know that location is worth considering. We also note wide horizontal vent slats, cup holders located in the forward location of the middle console, a gear shift that isn’t too tall. The Audi Q8 dash is also nice and wide so that will be a location worth consideration.
Audi Q8 Mount Recommendations
For the phone, there are several locations that will work well in the Audi Q8. First, and most popular in any vehicle is the windshield. Consider the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 Car Mount. This mount features an extendable base combined with an expandable cradle. Unlike many similar mounts, the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 has an 8-inch extension feature. Nice to have with the larger Audi Q8 where the reach to the windshield is a little more than most vehicles. The included cradle expands by pressing the buttons on each side. This is large enough to hold most phones.
The Audi Q8 dash is another good place to mount a phone, especially in states where mounting a phone to the windshield might be illegal. Fortunately, using the iOttie Easy One Touch 2 on a dash isn’t difficult. Add the iOttie Reusable Dashboard Pad to the configuration. It’s a temporary non adhesive dash pad. The bottom has a sticky surface and the top is smooth like, well, a windshield. Be sure to clean the dash area before application. Next, stick the suction cup from the mount to the smooth surface on the dash pad. When it’s time to remove the dash pad, just lift the tab and remove. Wash the bottom with warm soapy water and let it dry. This recharges the sticky surface.
If leaning towards the vent, consider the Andobil Air Vent Mount. This mount can be used to hold most phone models with or without a case. The ball and socket design facilitates a 360 degree rotation. The included cradle opens to accommodate phones up to 3.75 inches wide. The mount uses a unique locking clip to securely attach to horizontal and vertical vents. The cradle is removable to expose a 17mm ball suitable for a Garmin vehicular GPS such as a Garmin Nuvi or Garmin Drive.
Apple iPhone owners can consider the Andobil MagSafe Air Vent Mount which is the same mount but with a magnetic adapter that pairs perfectly.

Those cup holders are located in a nice position for mounting a tablet. This location is good for apps that do not require viewing while driving. So music apps are ok. GPS apps, not so much. Set the app up prior to your drive.
Check out this Cup Holder Mount for Tablets and Phones. This mount includes two different cradles and has an extended neck to make the mount a little higher than others. One for a phone and another for a tablet. The mount is adjustable and solidly made to easily handle the weight of your tablet. You will see a lot of mounts on the market for tablets or cell phones. This is the only car mounts that offers two different cradles, one for the phone, the other for the tablet. The tablet cradle will hold devices up to 12.9 inches but we suggest limiting it to nothing larger than an iPad Mini.
