Phone and GPS Mounts for an Audi Q3

Audi Q3 InteriorThe Audi Q3 is the first model we have looked at from this manufacturer.  This is one of the smallest SUVs we have looked at.  Not wide and not long.  In fact, tall passengers in the front seat results in almost no leg room for back seat passengers.

Audi Q3 Mount Analysis

A photo of the interior of the Audi Q3 is included.  Nice looking interior with a few challenges.  Most notable is the center display which pops up from the dash.  This nullifies using the dashboard as a mount point.  Simply not enough room.

The cup holders are set somewhat towards the back seats and this is a small SUV so we aren’t going to recommend any cup holder mounts.  The pair of center cup holders aren’t in a good position for useful device viewing.

The seat bolt rail provides sufficient room for a mount but the Audi Q3 uses bolts that require a special tool to remove so we’re passing on recommending any of these mounts.  Even if the bolts could be removed, the vehicle might be too small to use this mount location.

Now, let’s look at some good mount locations for an Audi Q3.  Fortunately there are several good places to mount a phone or GPS.

Audi Q3 Mount Recommendations

The windshield mount seen in the photo that is attached to the front windshield is the Arkon MegaGrip Suction Cup Windshield and Dash Mount.  The suction mount features a vacuum locked assembly and pivoting arm.  The phone can swivel into any orientation.  An expanding cradle opens to 3.4 inches to hold most phones with or without cases.

Remove the cradle and adapter from the above mount to hold a Garmin GPS.  The ball is 17mm in diameter.  It will snap right into the socket on the back of any cradle from a Garmin automotive GPS.

he above mounts include an adhesive dash plate.  It’s a round plate that is smooth so the suction cup can stick to this just like the windshield.  This enables use of either mount on the dash.  However, as we already mentioned, the Audi Q3 has limited real estate for a dash mount so you’re unlikely to use that option.

A vent mount will work equally as well in this vehicle.  Consider the Andobil Air Vent Mount.  This mount can be used to hold most phone models with or without a case.  The ball and socket design facilitates a 360 degree rotation.  The included cradle opens to accommodate phones up to 3.75 inches wide.  The mount uses a unique locking clip to securely attach to horizontal and vertical vents.  This Andobil Magsafe Air Vent Mount is the same mount but with a magnetic adapter that pairs perfectly with a newer iPhone.

A CD player mount is going to work just fine on the an Audi Q3.  We the Apps2Car CD Slot Mount uses a knob on the bottom to secure the mount within the CD player. I prefer this mount to others in this category as it will permit a more custom and secure fitting.  You don’t want the mount to rattle around inside the player.  The cradle opens to almost 4 inches which is wide enough for most phones and many GPS devices.

Summary

So in summary, when it comes to an Audi Q3, the windshield, air vent and CD player make good locations for mounting a phone or GPS.  The dash, seat bolt and cup holder are poor choices.  Tablets are too large for this vehicle.
