The eufy SoloCam is a very good camera. I have to admit that I didn’t expect much but the camera was great. The eufy SoloCam mount option was a bit underwhelming though. The camera comes with a stock mount that works ok but has some limitations.
eufy is a strange name. It’s made by a company that made their name in power banks and adapters. You may already have some of their products. The company is named Anker.
There are a few important attributes on the eufy SoloCam mount that needs to be discussed. First is the mounting point. A standard 1/4″ – 20 threaded screw hole can be found on the back of the camera. That’s a less than optimal location from a mounting perspective. It might be difficult to get a good angle without alternative mounting solutions.
eufy SoloCam Specifications
A photo of an eufy SoloCam S40 accompanies this article. There are several different models of the eufy SolosCam. This one has a solar panel attached to the top. There’s also an E40 that doesn’t have a solar panel but the mounts are all the same. It’s a heavy camera coming in at almost 2 pounds. I suspect the reason is the weight of the battery. The size is also on the larger size as it’s coming in at almost 4.5 inches long.
The back of the camera has a basic tripod screw. Because of the weight, we’re suggesting a heavy duty mount.
So here’s where we get into the alternative mount discussion. The tripod screw hole on the back will be used with all recommendations.
A Heavy Duty Surface Mount for the eufy SoloCam
Those in need of a quality heavier duty mount can consider the Arkon Camera Wall Mount. This is a metal mount deploying the tripod screw pattern that we need. It’s eight inches long. There are adjustment points at the base, midway and end and this allows an almost endless variety of angles. It comes with a set of screws and anchors for mounting. The square base has four mounting holes. We like this mount a lot.
The manufacturer offers a two-year warranty.
What’s the Mount in the Photo?
That’s a fair question. It’s a hybrid version of the Arkon Camera Wall Mount with 4-Hole AMPS Pattern. We added an Arkon Adhesive Base to it. The adhesive base includes a VHB base so when it’s attached properly, it’s not moving. VHB is an acronym for Very High Bond adhesive. Works great for keeping an eye on the pool.
eufy SoloCam Mount Alternatives
You may also want to consider a suction cup mount. A suction cup mount is handy for attaching to windows or a smooth metal surface. A heavy duty metal mount that can connect head-on with the back of the camera is required. That’s where the Fat Gecko Mini Camera and Camcorder Mount comes into consideration. These mounts allow the camera to swivel 360 degrees. The Fat Gecko has a 3-inch suction cup attached to a lever which provides a vacuum lock. These support cameras up to 4 pounds so the added weight of this eufy camera is no problem.
The Fat Gecko line of mounts is one of the better ones for cameras. We previously reviewed the Fat Gecko Camera Mounts. We called them the mother of all camera mounts. Build quality ranges from good to monster.
Mounting Guidelines
Remember some basic mounting principles. Mount the eufy SoloCam as high as possible. This will typically provide the best view. It will also make theft of the camera more difficult. I always like to recommend at least ten feet off the ground.
If you’re using the solar version of the SoloCam line, be sure to mount this level and where the top can be exposed to sufficient sun to charge the battery.
The eufy SoloCam is a very good camera. It has a nice app in addition to the well made hardware. The 2k video quality is a step up from the typical 1k level from many other models out there.
