The Amcrest ProHD Home Security Camera is one of the latest from Amcrest targeted towards home security. The Amcrest ProHD Camera is a great piece of hardware with a so-so smartphone app.
It’s great for those that want a camera and are somewhat technical. Not for beginners.
Out of the box, the Amcrest ProHD Camera is designed to sit on a desk or shelf. This isn’t a typical home security camera. It’s somewhat old school in design. The lens sits within a round ball that can be swiveled and pivoted. It provides a very wide-angle view as long as you have the app handy to make it swivel.
This camera includes a plastic wall mount with limited adjustment capabilities. It’s not a bad mount but somewhat limited in extension and angling. This mount attaches to the bottom of the Amcrest ProHD using a screw.
That screw is a standard 1/4″ – 20 threaded tripod screw hole. This means that many tripods and standard camera mounts will fit the Amcrest ProHD. It’s a fairly large camera so lightweight mounts aren’t recommended. You will need a heavy duty mount to hold the weight and attach from the bottom of the camera. An adjustable mount or tripod is needed.
So, let’s look at some home mounts and tripods for the Amcrest ProHD. By the way, don’t worry if the camera is upside down as the software can flip it over for you.
First, consider the Acuvar 50″ Inch Aluminum Camera Tripod which works well with the Amcrest ProHD. Just screw the camera onto the tripod and adjust the head to the proper angle. If you are going to use this traditional tripod, place it in an area where you aren’t going to knock it over. Also think about a pet knocking into it. The camera is easy to install and remove from the tripod. Just a matter of turning it so the tripod screw engages.
The standard tripod screw opens this up to an entire category of mounts made for your average everyday camera. Good call by Amcrest. I like to recommend the Arkon Camera Wall Mount for CCTV POV Camcorders Cameras for heavy cameras that need support from the bottom. This is a wall mount. Attach this metal mount to a wall and use the three adjustment points to get the proper angle. If you don’t mind drilling some holes in a wall, this is by far the best mount for the Amcrest ProHD in my opinion. Unlike placing the camera on a table, it sits unobstructed perched to this mount. Nothing will get in the way of the wide-angle lens providing an unobstructed view of the action.
Consider deploying the Fat Gecko Mini Camera and Camcorder Mount. It’s a well made mount that adjusts at the base and tip sufficiently to get the right angle for the best video when mounted on a window. The three-inch suction cup has a vacuum lock for a more secure hold. There’s an extension arm included with the mount that we suggest using to make it easier to get the right angle. It’s going to attach to the camera using the tripod hole on the bottom. The mount is made to hold up to four pounds, and the Amcrest entry will fit fine.
Any of these three mounts will work well and help get better video angles on your camera. All are well made and support the screw hole on the bottom of the Amcrest ProHD.
