The Blink Sync Module is the brains of the system. All Blink cameras communicate to the sync module. It needs to be centrally located so that all cameras can consistently communicate. Often, that central spot isn’t the most convenient. So, let’s discuss different ways to mount this device.
For those that have multiple Blink cameras, this becomes a bit of a juggling act. Under the Blink app’s settings is a strength indicator for Camera to to Sync Module and Camera to Wifi. These need to be as strong as possible.
For those with a single camera, this is an easy task. Just place the module as close as possible to the one camera. Multiple camera systems have a more challenging task. The sync module needs to be somewhere between the WiFi router and multiple routers where it can get the strongest signal from all devices.
Often that location is not as convenient as popping it on the table. Fortunately, there are some mounts that can make this job easier and keep it neat. Let’s look at some of the options.
Power Outlet Mounting
Fortunately most homes and offices have an A/C outlet on practically every wall. This often can serve as a central location for mounting the Sync Module.
The photo that accompanies this article is a clever way of mounting the Blink Sync Module to an outlet. The A/C adapter is paired with the LANMU Outlet Charging Cable for the Blink Sync Module. The rigid replacement cable sits between the A/C adapter and sync module. The rigid flexible cable can be bent upwards to keep the sync module in an out of the way location.
Another idea already discussed on our site is highlighted in our article called Mounting a Blink Sync Module to a Power Outlet. The mount highlighted in the other article wraps around the provided A/C adapter, uses a shorter USB cable then attaches the sync module to the bottom of the A/C adapter.
Other Places to Mount a Blink Sync Module
A possible limitation of mounting the Sync Module to an outlet is that it’s often located near the floor. Wireless signals are always stronger when located higher up so mounting the device to a wall is a good idea. Another good idea, especially for an outdoor implementation of the Blink XT or Blink XT2 is mounting it to a window.
Consider the eLhook 4” White Stick-On and Removable Shelf For Cloud Security Cameras and Small Speakers. It’s a handy way to attach a Blink Sync Module to a window or wall. This is a clever mount that uses temporary adhesive strips to attach the shelf to a window or wall. The module sits atop the ElHook Mount just like it would on your shelf or counter. The shelf even has a small hole useful for running the cable through. We first discovered these for mounting a Nest Cam to a window and they work quite well.
