Audi RS 7 Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts

Audi RS 7 MountsThe Audi RS 7 is a surprisingly easy vehicle to mount a device.  Keeping it wide and flat is always a big help.

We have looked at several Audi vehicles.  Rarely the easiest vehicle to mount a device.  Based upon our experience with the Audi RS 5, we weren’t too hopeful with this vehicle.  Fortunately, the interior has a much wider and expansive interior.  That makes mounting a phone, tablet or GPS easy.

Surveying the Audi RS 7 Interior

Our typical interior photo of the vehicle accompanies this article.  The windshield is nice and wide and makes a good location for mounting a phone or GPS.

An unusual feature is a dual dash.  There is a traditional dash which makes a good location for a phone or GPS.  Then there is a second dash location in front of the center air vents.  This will effectively negate one of our favorite locations which is the air vent.  The problem is the second dash is just below the vents so most devices will be too large and the second dash will get in the way of the device.

The cup holders are in a great location for mounting a tablet.  This location is best for devices that don’t need to be seen while driving so don’t use it for a navigation app.

Some Mount Recommendations for an Audi RS 7

Consider a suction cup mount for a phone or GPS.  One of our favorite mounts is the Arkon MegaGrip Suction Cup Windshield and Dash Mount.  The suction mount features a vacuum locked suction cup and pivoting arm.  The phone can swivel into any orientation.  The expandable cradle opens to 3.4 inches and will hold most phones with or without cases.

Remove the cradle and adapter from the above mount to hold a Garmin GPS.  The ball is 17mm in diameter.  It will snap right into the socket on the back of any cradle from a Garmin automotive GPS.

This mount kit includes an adhesive dash mounting disk.  Use this disk to mount your device to the upper dash.  The suction component will adhere to this disk just like it does on the windshield.

We wrote a detailed review of the Arkon Mega Grip line of products awhile back.  We have liked this product line for a long time and continue to recommend it.

A pair of cup holders are located on the center console towards the passenger.  A cup holder mount with an adjustable arm can be deployed in the passenger cup holder.  This can work well for applications that do not need to be referenced while driving (aka GPS apps).

Consider this Cup Holder Mount for Tablets and Phones.  This mount includes two different cradles and has an extended neck to make the mount a little higher than others.  One for a phone and another for a tablet.  The mount is adjustable and solidly made to easily handle the weight of your tablet.  You will see a lot of mounts on the market for tablets or cell phones.  This is the only car mounts that offers two different cradles, one for the phone, the other for the tablet.  The tablet cradle will hold devices up to 12.9 inches.

Summary

So we were able to find a few good locations for mounts in an Audi RS 7.  The windshield and dash are the best locations for a phone or GPS.  The cup holder within the middle console is the best place for a small to midsize tablet.
