Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for an Acura MDX

Apple iPhone in an Acura MDXMost SUVs are easy to mount a mobile device within and the Acura MDX is a typical SUV.  I owned an Acura MDX for almost eight years and it was a great car.  One of the easier SUVs to mount a cell phone, tablet or GPS.  Lots of space.  Except for perhaps the dash, no unusual curves or bumps.  Lots of different places will work well in an Acura MDX but there were a few mounts and holders that simply won’t work.  Especially on the dashboard.

We always try to have a photo of the interior accompany our vehicle specific articles.  A photo of the interior of an Acura MDX accompanies this article.  I took this photo with a mount clipped to the sun visor.  I’m not going to recommend that mount, but do want you to pay attention to the dashboard design.

A vent mount works real well in an Acura MDX.  The TechMatte MagGrip Magnetic Car Mount Holder for SmartPhones is an excellent choice and one that I have personally used.  The mount has a magnetic surface a little larger than a US Quarter.  The back has four prongs that are used to attach to a car vent.  This design allows attachment to either a horizontal or vertical vent.  The attachment to the vent slats is accomplished by aligning a vent slat between the prongs and pushing forward.  There are included metal strips which attach to the back of your case or phone.  That’s how it attaches to the mount.  You can also use this for a GPS that has a flat back.

I have also used a suction cup on my Acura MDX.  My go-to mount for this location which is the Arkon MegaGrip Suction Cup Windshield and Dash Mount.  The suction mount features a vacuum locked suction assembly attached to a pivoting arm.  The phone can swivel into any orientation.  The mount also comes with an adhesive disk that you can stick to the dash to turn the mount into a console mount.  The suction assembly can adhere to the adhesive disk just like it would on a windshield.  I use this mount all the time and it works great.

The same mount but for a Garmin GPS is the Arkon Windshield Dash Garmin Nuvi Suction Mount.  I have recommended this one over the many years it has been available and have used it myself.  It’s an excellent mount that comes with a 2-year warranty.  It’s more rugged and longer than the Garmin mount you received in the box.

You may also want to consider an extra long suction cup solution such as the Arkon Extendable Smartphone and Midsize Tablet Mount.  The cradle is spring-loaded and expands to over 7 inches .  It’s going to fit most smartphones and tablets up to an Apple iPad Mini.  The mount itself has a metal arm that can extend from 14.5 to 18.5 inches.  The cradle rotates 360 degrees so your tablet can be in portrait or landscape mode.  The suction cup has a vacuum lock to maintain a secure connection.  The metal arm will keep the tablet very steady in normal environments.

A car seat bolt mount is a no-go on an Acura MDX.  The seat bolt isn’t easily accessible.  While you can certainly use the option to bolt it directly to the floor board, most are not going to want to drill holes into their car’s floor, so I won’t bother to go any further with these.

Like many larger SUVs, the Acura MDX has a large dashboard.  Unfortunately, it’s not overly accessible due to the visor that’s in place so that you can see the car display better.  If you don’t mind mounting a dash mount to the left or right of the hump caused by that visor, you can use the two suction mounts I mentioned already (not the extra long mount) as they both come with an adhesive disk so that you can use it on a flat dash surface.  This option is best for states where mounting to a windshield is illegal.

A CD player mount is going to work just fine thanks on the Acura MDX.  Consider the Mpow CD Slot Mount for SmartPhones.  Be sure to follow the included instructions for a secure fit within the CD player.  The included cradle opens to 3.4 inches and swivels into any orientation.  Remove the cradle to expose a 17mm ball suitable for a Garmin GPS.

A cup holder mount is probably the best place to mount a larger tablet in an Acura MDX.  The Arkon Car Cup Holder Mount for Tablets is a nice choice for almost any tablet and fits large tablets all the way up to an Apple iPad Pro.  This cup holder mount has a ball and socket design which facilitates adjustment and it swivels into any orientation.  The cup holder mount fits up to 3.25 inches diameter and that means an Acura MDX will get along real well with this mount.

The Acura MDX is one of the easier vehicles to mount a device.  I would avoid a floor / seat bolt mount and perhaps think twice before using a dash mount.  Almost any other location should work well.
