Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for an Acura MDX

Acura MDX MountsMost SUVs are easy to mount a mobile device within and the Acura MDX is a typical (and very nice) SUV.  One of the easier SUVs to mount a phone, tablet or GPS.  Lots of space.

Acura MDX Mount Analysis

We always try to have a photo of the interior accompany our vehicle specific articles.  A photo of the interior of an Acura MDX accompanies this article.  Let’s look around.

Easy to reach windshield makes a good location for a phone.  The horizontal middle vents can also make a good phone location.  We’re also noticing a usable space around the rearview mirror.

The gear shift design is low profile so we can use that for a small to midsize tablet.

Not usable is a CD Player slot because there is none.  Also, the dash is a poor spot because the center console is taking most of that real estate.  And lastly, the seat bolt isn’t easily accessible so using that location isn’t going to work either.

Phone Mounts for the Acura MDX

A good phone mount up for discussion is the Andobil Air Vent Mount.  This mount can be used to hold most phone models with or without a case.  The ball and socket design facilitates a 360 degree rotation.  The included cradle opens to accommodate phones up to 3.75 inches wide.  The mount uses a unique locking clip to securely attach to horizontal and vertical vents.

Apple iPhone owners can scope out the Andobil MagSafe Air Vent Mount which is the same mount but with a magnetic adapter that pairs perfectly.

The Andobil Air Vent Mount can also be used for a Garmin GPS too.  All Garmin vehicle GPS devices made over the past ten years include a custom cradle that has a 17mm socket on the back.  Remove the cradle from the Andobil mount and you have a 17mm ball.  Just snap the Garmin cradle onto the mount minus the cradle and your GPS can be mounted to the air vent.

Our go-to choice for the windshield is the Arkon MegaGrip Suction Cup Windshield and Dash Mount.  The suction mount features a vacuum locked suction assembly attached to a pivoting arm.  The phone can swivel into any orientation.  The mount also comes with an adhesive disk that you can stick to the dash to turn the mount into a console mount.  While we aren’t fans of a dash mount for the Acura MDX, the extra feature is included.

This same mount can also be used for a Garmin GPS.  Just remove the cradle and adapter to uncover the 17-mm ball which fits the socket included with your GPS.

Lastly, for the rearview mirror, consider the SXhyf Rear View Mirror Phone Mount.  The mount includes a bracket that attaches to the top and bottom of the mirror.  The accompanying cradle attaches to an extension arm which can pivot to give you the best angle.  A nicely made mount at a very fair price.

Tablet Mounts for the Acura MDX

When it comes to mounting a small to midsize tablet, take a look at the Cup Holder Mount for Tablets and Phones.  This mount includes two different cradles and has an extended neck to make the mount a little higher than others.  One for a phone and another for a tablet.  The mount is adjustable and solidly made to easily handle the weight of your tablet.  You will see a lot of mounts on the market for tablets or cell phones.  This is the only car mounts that offers two different cradles, one for the phone, the other for the tablet.  The tablet cradle will hold devices up to 12.9 inches but we suggest limiting it to nothing larger than an iPad Mini.

Acura MDX Mount Summary

We covered some excellent locations for the Acura MDX.  We like the windshield, rearview mirror and vent for mounting a phone or GPS.  On the tablet, consider the cup holder.

Avoid the seat bolt, CD Player and dash locations.
