The iOttie Easy One Touch 2 Car Mount for phones is another version of the company’s very successful One Touch model. We will take a closer look at this well priced car mount and how it differs from the older model. We wrote about the older model which is the iOttie Easy One Touch and you can read about that mount here.
Unboxing
Like most universal mounts, the iOttie Easy One Touch 2 comes with two components. The cradle and mount. The mount itself differs from its predecessor by adding a sticky gel pad to the base. I have seen this in some other company’s mounts as well. It’s a new concept that allows the suction part of the mount to be used for not only smooth surfaces but also those with texture, such as a dashboard.
The sticky suction cup has some disadvantages too. If you are constantly removing it from the car, that suction cup will lose its stickiness and will eventually need to be recharged. Easy enough. Just rinse it in some warm soapy water and let it dry. Now it’s recharged and ready to use.
Mount Features and Advantages
There is a unique extension feature built into the mount. Unlike many similar mounts, the iOttie Easy One Touch 2 has a two-inch extension feature. This is a welcome feature for larger vehicles such as an SUV where a little additional reach is necessary to see or interact with the mounted device.
The cradle is of the expandable variety. It opens up to 3.2 inches by pressing the buttons on each side. This is large enough to hold some of the largest phones. For example, the Apple iPhone 6s Plus is 3.07 inches wide so this cradle will fit just fine as long as there is no thick case or skin. Ideally, I would have preferred to see the cradle open wider to accommodate one of the thick cases like an Otterbox Defender. Unfortunately, for me, with an Apple iPhone 6s Plus with an Otterbox Defender, this cradle won’t do the job. However, it will work fine on my wife’s Apple iPhone 5s with the Otterbox Defender.
The closing mechanism of the iOttie cradle is somewhat unique. While the cradle opens by pressing the two side buttons, it closes via the button on the upper back of the cradle. So when you place the phone in the cradle and press it towards the back it automatically closes around the phone. Makes it easy and I guess that’s where the One Touch part of the name comes into play.
Once your phone is in the cradle, it can pivot and rotate. This allows your phone to be placed into portrait or landscape. When using your phone with a GPS app, you will likely use landscape mode. When using it for music, portrait is the typical position.
Summary
The iOttie Easy One Touch 2 comes with a 1-year warranty. This is about middle of the road for mount warranties. We have seen some with 90 days, others with 2-years or even lifetime. Based upon my past use of iOttie products, they are made fairly well.
So in summary, the iOttie Easy One Touch 2 Car Mount for SmartPhones is a nice mount and worth your consideration. Ideally, I would have liked to see a larger cradle, but if your total phone configuration is less than the 3.2 inch cradle restriction, this mount should work out nicely.
The mount is available on Amazon at a great price.
