Phone and GPS Mounts for a Chevy Camaro

To no surprise, the Chevy Camaro is a real challenge to mount a phone, GPS or tablet.  It has a very narrow interior with a lot of curves where there shouldn’t be curves (at least for mounting purposes).  While we are able to recommend a few good mounts for a phone or GPS, you can forget about a tablet.  There is no place to safely mount a tablet in a Ford Mustang.

Mount Analysis

We thought the Ford Mustang was difficult to find good mount locations.  This is even worse.

Our usual photo of the interior of the vehicle accompanies this article.  On the initial appearance, you may think there’s plenty of places to mount a phone or GPS but we found that to not be the case.

Perhaps a CD player mount?  Nope.  Like many other vehicles manufactured over the past several years, these are not included.

Maybe a Cup Holder mount?  Afraid not.  There are two cup holders in the Chevy Camaro but they are set too far back to be used as a mounting point.

A seat bolt mount?  Not going to happen in a Chevy Camaro.  The seat bolts are not exposed.  While you could mount it directly to the floor board, we’re guessing you don’t want to start drilling holes in the floor of your Camaro.

Mount Recommendations

Let’s discuss the places that worked well on the Chevy Camaro.

The windshield is the best place to mount a phone in a Chevy Camaro.  Consider the Arkon MegaGrip Suction Cup Windshield and Dash Mount.  This continues to be one of our favorite windshield mounts.  The included expandable cradle will fit practically any phone as it opens to 3.4 inches.  Cases or skins will fit fine.  The phone can be rotated into landscape or portrait.  The suction mount features a vacuum locked suction assembly attached to a pivoting arm.  A 2-year warranty is provided by the manufacturer.

The dash is possible on the Chevy Camaro.  Interestingly enough, the mount we just mentioned comes with an adhesive dash disk.  This enables the suction mount we just discussed to attach to the dash just like it would on the windshield.  Place the adhesive in the middle of the dash but close to the lip.

A similar mount is available for a Garmin GPS.  In fact, it’s the same mount but without the cradle adapter.  Probably best to simply buy the phone mount so you have the cradle in case you want to use it for a phone but if not, keep it simple and go with the Arkon Windshield Dash Garmin Nuvi Suction Mount.  The mount has the 17mm ball that attaches to the back of a Garmin vehicular GPS cradle.  The mount itself is somewhat longer than the one you get from Garmin and has more adjustment opportunities.

The vents are unique.  The outer ring of the two middle vents is used to adjust the fan speed and temperature.  The vents themselves are large and round.  As readers of our website know, round vents are always a challenge but even more so in the Chevy Camaro because of a large knob right int the middle of the vent.  And even if the knob was not there, the location is all the way at the bottom of the console and not usable.  So much for the vent mount!

If you’ve read this far, we might as well recommend another windshield mount for this vehicle.  Consider the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 Car Mount which provides an extendable rigid base combined with an expandable cradle.  Unlike many similar mounts, the iOttie Easy One Touch 2 has an 8-inch extension feature.  The included cradle expands by pressing the buttons on each side.  The mount swivels 225 degrees.

Summary

So there you have it.  The only good locations to mount a phone or GPS in a Chevy Camaro is the windshield and dash.  The CD player, air vents and seat bolt are not happening.  And forget about mounting a tablet in this vehicle.
