Phone, Tablet and GPS Mounts for a Mazda CX-30

Today, we are going to take a close look at the Mazda CX-30.  It’s Mazda’s subcompact SUV entry.  Had a lot of space in the front seat for a small SUV. Mount Analysis We recently took a look at the Mazda CX-90 which is much larger cousin to this model.  Being a small model, there’s less space in the front.  It’s a fairly conventional interior which is good for mounting devices. Lots of different places will work well in a Mazda CX-30 but there were a few mounts and holders that won’t work. The cup holder location is set towards … Read more

Phone, Tablet and GPS Mounts for a Mazda CX-90

Today, we had an opportunity to scope out a big new Mazda CX-90.  This is a large 7-seater SUV with some interesting mount challenges. Mount Analysis Our usual obligatory interior photo accompanies this article.  Nice spacious interior with a few surprises. You may instantly think that with an interior as large as a small house that any mount would work just fine.  That’s not the case.  There were several locations that will not support a mount for a smartphone, GPS or tablet. The windshield is a good location for a phone or GPS.  It’s a bit of a reach, so … Read more

Phone and GPS Mounts for a Mazda 3

Figuring the Mazda 3 is your typical intermediate car, I was surprised by the complexity involved finding good places to mount a phone or GPS.  You can completely forget about a tablet, not enough space in this smaller vehicle. Mount Analysis A photo of the interior of a Mazda 3 accompanies this article.  A surprisingly long reach to the windshield complicated by a strange console popping up from the dash.  This popup console complicates a lot of mounting possibilities and completely voids the potential to mount anything to the dashboard. Equally as difficult will be using a CD player mount.  … Read more

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Mazda CX-5 SUV

This week, I had the opportunity to drive a Mazda CX-5 SUV.  Nice size for an intermediate SUV.  Can’t say I’m a fan of the touch screen interface but there are a lot of good places to mount a phone, GPS or tablet. Mount Analysis A photo of the interior of a Mazda CX-5 accompanies this article.  Decent size with the usual long reach to the windshield common to an SUV.  Normal horizontal vents and a long reach down to the cup holders. I’m not fond of the location of the cup holders.  They are set too far back to … Read more

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Mazda Miata

I have a friend with a Mazda Miata and while I can’t possibly fit in it, she seems to like it a lot.  The Mazda Miata is a small convertible that (in my opinion) is better suited for people other than really tall or really wide.  It has a small interior.  Not an easy car to mount a phone, GPS or tablet within. Mount Analysis This isn’t an easy task.  The vents are small and round with narrow slats, there aren’t any useful cup holders and it’s too small of a car for a seat bolt mount. Let me get … Read more

Phone and GPS Mounts for Round Vents

I used to think that mounting stuff onto a vertical vent was the most difficult of locations.  I forgot about round vents.  You find these in a minority of cars.  Vents are a great place to mount a smartphone or GPS.  It’s right around your normal eye level yet below the spot where a bad guy could see it so the location helps to minimize device theft. Round Vent Challenge So what’s the problem with round vents?  Take a look at the photo.  That’s a Mazda Miata.  They have round vents.  The vents are small and have a little knob … Read more
