The Mercedes-Benz A220 has a great looking interior. Lots of leather, curved surfaces and chrome. We’re going to look at the best mounting locations for this vehicle.
Mercedes-Benz A220 Analysis
A photo of the Mercedes-Benz A220 interior accompanies this article. Almost as difficult as the previously reviewed Mercedes-Benz C450, finding good mounts for this vehicle isn’t going to be easy.
We’ve reviewed a few Mercedes-Benz models in the past and it seems like Mercedes is bent on making it more and more difficult to mount devices inside their vehicles.
The windshield is probably going to be the best place to mount a phone. The vents are small and round and mounts for vents with this shape never work well. The dash is partially blocked by an extended display but not so much that you couldn’t use a dash mount. The seat bolts aren’t easily accessed so no seat bolt mount will work. The vehicle is too small to easily deploy a good cup holder mount. I couldn’t find a CD Player in the model I looked at. It might be there, but I don’t know where.
A device larger than a phone can’t easily be mounted in this vehicle. They are simply too large for this vehicle.
Mount Recommendations for the Mercedes-Benz A220
So the best place to mount a phone or a GPS is going to be the windshield. That’s often the default location in vehicles like this. When all other locations are a no-go, the windshield will usually be the only place left.
Consider the Arkon Slim Grip Ultra Travel Mount for smartphones. The cradle opens to over seven-inches which is large enough to hold a phone with or without a case (including a big thick Otterbox Defender). It has an expandable cradle with legs that can be moved from side to side to leave any port on your phone exposed for cables. The mount can be adjusted at the base and cradle. It rotates 360 degrees.
If you would like to use a Garmin GPS in this vehicle, remove the cradle from this mount. That uncovers a 17mm ball which is the exact size necessary to fit the socket on the back of a Garmin GPS cradle.
This mounting kit also includes an adhesive dash disk. The 80mm round disk adheres to a flat surface on the dash. The top of the disk is smooth so the suction cup will adhere to it just like a windshield. If using this mount on the dash, turn the phone cradle into landscape mode so the phone will fit without a problem.
Another good windshield mount to consider is the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 Car Mount for SmartPhones which provides an extendable rigid base combined with an expandable cradle. Unlike many similar mounts, the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 has an 8-inch extension feature. Not a bad feature to have as it allows the device to be closer to the driver. The included cradle expands by pressing the buttons on each side. This is large enough to hold most phones.
So summing up our Mercedes-Benz A220 mounting analysis, the windshield and dash are the best locations to mount a phone or GPS. Other locations are not going to work as well and should probably be avoided.
