LifeProof LifeActiv Mounts with Quickmount Product Spotlight

LifeProof LifeActiv Mounts with Quickmount Product SpotlightLifeProof is known for making solid phone and tablet cases.  I recently discovered they entered the mount business.  Makes sense.  A mount is a natural add-on for people interested in purchased a case.  LifeProof has decided to differentiate themselves by introducing an accessory called Quickmount which is used to lock your phone onto LifeProof LifeActiv mounts.

All LifeProof LifeActiv mounts use a part called the LifeProof LifeActive Quickmount Adapter.  This is a small disk with a raised surface which attaches to back of a device of a case.  The adapter can then lock onto one of the LifeProof LifeActiv mounts.  The mounts have an ending that is made to lock onto the adapter.  The concept is somewhat similar to mounts I have seen from Quad Lock Mounting Systems.

The QuickMount adapter will attach to all LifeProof cases.  It won’t stick to the back of cases that deploy a silicon case as part of the protection.  This means that cases like an Otterbox Defender won’t work with these adapters.  The case needs to be made of plastic or metal for the bonding on the back of the adapter to work properly.  Once you have the adapter attached to the back of your case or device, be sure to let it dry for 24 hours.  The back of the adapter uses 3M Very High Bond (VHB) adhesive and it needs time to cure before use.  If you use this without sufficient curing time, the mount may not work, so let it sit a day.

Once the adapter is attached, you can begin to attach your phone to one of the LifeProof LifeActiv mounts.  Just press the adapter onto the mount and press.  Give it a tug to make sure it’s secure.  Then slide the switch to lock.  Removal is done by unlocking the switch and turning it to the left to release.

There is an entire series of mounts that LifeProof has introduced to pair with the Quickmount adapter.  I like these adapters for light duty applications.  For example, a car windshield, maybe a flat surface like a car dashboard.  I always try to avoid using adhesive, even VHB which is about the best you can get, on any rugged application.  So while there are LifeProof LifeActiv handlebar mounts available, I would avoid it.  A vibrating motorcycle or bouncing bike isn’t a place for adhesive.  That’s just my opinion.

The Lifeproof LifeActiv Suction Mount with Quickmount is a good combination of the mount and adapter.  The mounting head will swivel into portrait or landscape mode.  There is a vacuum lock at the base to get a good secure attachment to a windshield.  There is also an adjustment point at the base to change the angle.  A Quickmount adapter is included with this mount.  Although it’s not advertised as such, this particular mount will make good GPS mounts too.

For use a flat surface such as a car dash consider the Lifeproof LifeActiv Multipurpose Mount with Quickmount.  This one also comes with the Quickmount adapter.  Most will use this mount with the adhesive option but it comes with a screw kit as well.  If using the adhesive option, be sure to let it sit for 24 hours to allow the adhesive to cure prior to use.  An interesting mount that can be used indoors attached to a wall as well as in a car stuck to the dash.

The last option worthy of mention is the Lifeproof LifeActiv Armband with QuickMount.  It works similarly to the prior mounts with the locking switch to keep the phone in place.  The adjustable armband fits arms measuring 8.5” – 19”.   Lifeproof LifeActiv Mounts are one of the few I am aware of that will support their sustem on your body as well as your vehicle.

So in summary, I like Lifeproof LifeActiv Mounts for environments that are typical car and workout use.  I would steer clear of rugged use such as a motorcycle where vibration might jar the adhesive free.  But if you are looking to use these on a windshield, it’s a good choice.
