Car and Motorcycle Mounts for the LG K10 Smartphone

Arkon SM614 fits the LG K10 Smartphone quite wellThe LG K10 was released in January of 2016.  Running Android 5.1.1, it will also support Marshmallow 6.0.  The LG K10 sports a nicely sized 5.3″ diagonal screen at 720 x 1280 pixels.  Today, we are going to discuss mounts and holders for the LG K10 for use in a car or on a motorcycle.

The LG K10 smartphone measures 5.75 x 2.94 x 0.35 inches (146 x 74.8 x 8.8 mm) and weighs 5.1 ounces.  Those are the measurements we need to recommend the right mounts.  The days of customs mounts are over.  Too many models of smartphones to keep up with so manufacturers are concentrating on universal mounts.  But be careful as not all universal mounts are made the same.  The LG K10 is fairly large so you can’t just buy any universal mount.  You need to purchase a mount with a large expandable cradle.  Be sure to measure your phone before cradle shopping and remember, if you have a case or skin, the dimensions are even larger.

Buy a good case for this phone.  It will cost you more to fix a cracked screen than the cost of a case.  I am a big fan of Otterbox and Spigen on cases but there are a lot of other good brands out there.  If you think insurance will cover you, think again.  Insurance policies purchased from your carrier have a deductible and for newer more expensive phones that can be $169 on up.  So to add insult to injury, you will not only be paying the monthly insurance premium, but you will then pay the deductible.  You can read our article on phone insurance here.  Bottom line is buy a case and be sure to account for the added size when selecting your mount.

On to the mount discussion for the LG K10.

For the car, think about where you would like to mount it.  There are lots of places to mount your LG K10.  The windshield is the most popular location to mount a smartphone especially if you plan to use it as a GPS with my favorite application which is Waze.  We continue to recommend  Arkon’s Slim Grip Ultra Travel Mount for these larger smartphones.  It’s the mount in the photo that accompanies the article.  This mount features an expandable holder which expands to over 7 inches using a spring-loaded mechanism.  You can move the support arms left or right to avoid blocking any ports or buttons.  This will fit your phone with or without a thick case.  The mount comes with an adhesive dash plate so that you can attach to the mount to your dash as well as your windshield.  That adhesive plate comes in handy in states that do not permit windshield mounting.

For a different mounting location, consider one of the dozen cup holders in your car.  The very well thought out Arkon Car Cup Holder Mount with Slim Grip Ultra Cradle includes a holder that opens to over 7 inches.  The bottom of the cup holder will expand to 3.25 inches so it will fit most cup holders except some strange ones that pop out of your dash like those found in roadsters like the Mercedes SLK series.  There is a 5 inch flexible stem to permit the phone to angle towards the driver or passenger.

One of my favorite locations for a phone is the car air vent.  The Arkon Magnetic Vent Mount is an excellent and well made choice.  The mount secures onto horizontal or vertical car air vents with added support leg for extra stability.  The added support leg is unique to the Arkon mount.  It enables additional stability over other vent mounts.  The vent keeps your phone right around eye level and out of the way of potential thieves.  Check your vent to make sure it’s well made enough to hang a lightweight device.  A recent innovation is mounts is the use of a small magnet coupled with a very think adhesive metal disk which sticks to the back of your phone.  The great thing about magnetic mounts is the simple process for install and removal.  It’s a simple matter of simply matching up where the metal strip is to the magnet.

For motorcycle use, it’s important that you select a mount that has a well constructed cradle that is going to hold your LG K10 tightly so that it stays secure in high vibration environments.  The RAM X-Grip continues to a be a favorite for motorcycle use.  Most motorcycles can use the RAM X-Grip IV Handlebar Mount.  These are heavy duty mounts that are mostly constructed of metal.  The mount has gone through some rigorous shake tests and holds up well on a motorcycle.  We wrote about X-Grips extensively on this site and you can view that article here.    These mounts feature the expandable X-Grip IV cradle which can open to 4.5 inches which is large enough for the LG K10 with or without a case or skin.  Be sure to purchase these from current stock as these now include a safety tether which we highly recommend using.
