Waze Gets a Face Lift with Version 4

So Google upgraded Waze to Version 4 a few days ago.  The theme of the upgrade is a redesign of the interface so that it’s more streamlined.  There are some other improvements too which we will discuss within this article.  The functionality of Waze remains the same which is a social GPS experience.  I have written about Waze many times before starting with my initial accolades which you can read here. The first thing you will notice when cranking up Waze Version 4 is that the fonts are different and larger.  The map is uncluttered.  There isn’t a typing area … Read more

Waze Newly Introduced Features

Faithful readers of this site are familiar with my affection for Waze.  This is the third article I have written on the application.  You can read the other two here and here.  I am still a huge fan and the recent new release makes me an even bigger one.  The features of Waze coupled with a high resolution large screen smartphone like the Samsung Galaxy S5 or Apple iPhone 6 makes this the best GPS available.  I’m including the latest GPS models from the large manufacturers in this statement.  The inclusion of live traffic updates and road hazards is something … Read more

Some Help Fixing a Slow Samsung Galaxy Phone

Recently switching from an Apple iPhone 6s Plus to a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge bought about some good and bad surprises.  Good stuff included the availability of wireless charging, NFC integration and a much broader and useful assortment of apps.  The bad surprises?  Well there were two.  The beveled edge is a pain.  I’m always mistakenly opened apps and pulling the edge apps open.  The second, and most surprising bad aspect is occasional performance lag.  We’re going to discuss a few ways to fix a slow Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Turns out that my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge isn’t the only … Read more

Waze Versus Google Maps

Readers of this site know how fond I am of Waze.  A very popular competitor to Waze is Google Maps.  Ironically Google is not only the owner of Google Maps but they also own Waze thanks to a large purchase completed in 2013.  The $1.3 billion purchase made a small bunch of employees millionaires overnight at the Israeli company.  Let’s do a Waze versus Google Maps comparison. On the surface, you might wonder why Google would invest over $1 billion on a product that is so similar to one they already have.  Both applications are in the GPS category, gives … Read more

Apple iPhone Ear Speaker Volume Suddenly Low Fix

Once in a while, I’ll write an article about the devices we mount versus the mounts themselves.  This is one of those articles. I own an Apple iPhone 5s.  It’s been terrific for almost two years and I never had an issue.  Until yesterday.  I made a call just like I always do.  Keyed in the number and put the phone to my ear to find the volume was extremely low.  It almost sounded like I was using the external speaker on a low volume setting.  I checked to make sure that wasn’t the case and for sure, the low … Read more

Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ Car and Motorcycle Mounts

Samsung just announced the annual model upgrade to their successful flagship lineup.  The Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+ is the latest to consider.  It’s a complete redesign from the S7 and S7 Edge so mounts that may have fit your old phone may not fit the new models. They made these phones larger than the prior generation which is a bit of a surprise.  The Samsung Galaxy S8 comes in with a 5.8 inch diagonal screen and measures 5.86 inches tall by 2.68 inches wide by .31 inches deep.  The Samsung Galaxy S8+ is even larger.  Sporting a crazy large … Read more
