Car and Truck Mounts for the Uniden SDS100 Scanner

The Uniden SDS100 is the best scanner I have ever used.  While it pains me to pay for the DMR upgrade after spending so much, it’s still a great scanner.  I’m able to hear frequencies I could not get before.  Programming is about as easy as it gets using Sentinel. An entire article could be written about the merits of the Uniden SDS100.  Since this is a site about mounts, we’re going to write an entire article about mounts for the Uniden SDS100.  We’ll leave the technical merits articles to sites that do that better than we could. Mounting Basics … Read more

Mounting Uniden HomePatrol-1 and HomePatrol-2 in the Car

I remember when a scanner meant having a book of frequencies to key in so that you could find the traffic of interest to you.  Things have changed radically with the Uniden HomePatrol-1 and HomePatrol-II Scanner.  Just key in your zip code, select the traffic type you wish to hear and the radio finds the stations by itself.  It’s that easy.  Up and running in minutes. One thing that Uniden did not realize until after these radios were out for a bit is that people would like to use it in their cars.  Fortunately they listened to their customers and came … Read more

AMPS Pattern Mounts

The mounting industry does not have an official standard but the AMPS pattern might be as close as you can get (at least for small electronics).  The AMPS pattern is a series of four holes aligned in a rectangular pattern.  Some manufacturers use two of the four holes while maintaining the AMPS pattern spacing dimensions.  The mounting pattern consists of four holes in a rectangular pattern spaced 1.188 inches by 1.813 inches.  Some manufacturers also have 2-hole adapters that support the diagonal measurement of 1.912 inches. The AMPS pattern is fairly well-known in the HAM Radio industry where many head plates from … Read more

Mounting a Radar Detector Anywhere BUT the Windshield

Did you know that in some states it is illegal to have anything stuck on your windshield?  It you are in California or Minnesota and we hear it is starting in Florida, you will receive a ticket for having it attached to your windshield and you can read more about that here.  They don’t mind you having the detector, it’s where you put it.  Although, be aware, some states do mind if you have one of these, so be careful that you are using a detector where it is legal. While we find some radar detector manufacturers (like Escort) typically … Read more

Ways to Mount a Uniden BC-GPSK GPS Antenna

For those wanting to take certain Uniden scanners on the road and benefit from the embedded frequency database, the Uniden BC-GPSK GPS Antenna is a must have.  The antenna will help determine your location and coupled with some scanner settings, keep receiving audio within a predetermined radius from where you are. The Uniden BC-GPSK GPS Antenna plugs into a port on the scanner.  Not every Uniden scanner supports this antenna.  Two very popular scanner models supporting the Uniden BC-GPSK GPS Antenna, and already profiled on this site, are the Uniden SDS100 and Uniden BCD436HP scanners.  Keep in mind, the SDS100 … Read more

Radar Detector Motorcycle Mounts

I know I shouldn’t speed and typically don’t but it sure is nice to know when to look down at my speedometer to ensure that I am at or below the current speed limit.  Using a radar detector is legal within most US states.  They are simply to attach to any car windshield using the included suction mount that comes with the radar detector.  Not so simple when it comes to a motorcycle.  We never recommend using a suction cup on a motorcycle but especially not the ones that come with most radar detectors.  They are way too small and … Read more
