Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Nissan Altima

This was an easy one.  The Nissan Altima can work with almost any mount.  This might be the easiest vehicle of them all to mount a smartphone or GPS.  A tablet is a little trickier due to the size of the car.  Not a lot that will not work in this car but there are a few locations that will work better than others. Our usual photo of the interior accompanies this article.  It’s a very conventional design.  Not a lot of unexpected curves or lips.  Even the seat bolt is exposed.  Normally, I go on to say which mounts won’t work. … Read more

The Uniden APPCAM 24HR Indoor Camera is a lower end home security entry from a company known for electronics.  The camera comes with a small swivel mount.  We’re going to look at alternative mounts for this camera. On the back of the Uniden APPCAM 24HR Indoor Camera you will find an industry standard tripod hole.  That hole measures 1/4″ – 20 threaded and this is where the provided table stand screws into.  This is excellent as it allows the introduction of many different mounts and tripods for this camera. The Uniden APPCAM 24HR Indoor Camera is an oddly shaped camera, especially on … Read more

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Volkswagen Passat

The Volkswagen Passat is an easy one to mount accessories.  Not such an easy car to drive.  There is a small switch behind the steering wheel that puts the automatic transmission into a lower gear.  I must mistakenly touch it every five miles.  Every time I make a left turn. This isn’t a car review so let’s take a look at what mounts work well in a Volkswagen Passat.  The executive summary is every location except the seat bolt will work well in a Volkswagen Passat.  The seat bolt difficulty is one that we are seeing on a greater basis … Read more

Car Mounts for the Garmin DriveAssist 51LMT-S GPS and Dash Cam

Continuing our series of articles for the Garmin 2017 series, let’s discuss mounts for the Garmin DriveAssist 51LMT-S.  This is my favorite of the Drive line.  Integration of a dash cam with a GPS device makes a lot of sense to me.  Garmin must agree as they continue their successful integration of the two technologies. Garmin started this concept several years ago with the introduction of the Garmin NuviCam.  Currently, this integration isn’t available in a smartphone.  This gives Garmin a significant advantage over popular GPS apps such as Waze.  While this advantage might disappear in the future, I’m unaware of … Read more
