Using a Dash Disk to Attach a Suction Cup Mount to the Car Dashboard

The most popular mount for attaching small to midsize devices in a vehicle remains a suction cup.  A suction cup attaches to practically any surface that is smooth, non-porous and flat.  The problem is that a dashboard is seldom smooth and non-porous.  Sometimes it isn’t even flat.  That’s where a dash disk comes in. A dash disk provides a smooth non-porous surface for a suction cup to attach.  One side of the dash disk attaches to a car or truck dashboard.  The other side is smooth, just like a windshield. Using a dash disk with a suction mount allows you … Read more

Wheelchair Apple iPad Mounts and Holders

I recently had to visit a patient in a rehabilitation center and noted several residents with an Apple iPad and other tablets on their laps.  I suspect this isn’t the greatest arrangement for them and the tablet often gets lost or drops off their laps.  So based on this, I decided to write this article to recommend some wheelchair Apple iPad mounts. Although there are a few exceptions, most wheelchairs are built similarly.  They are constructed of metal circular bars with padding added to the armrest.  The diameter of the round bars are typically in the .75 to 1.25 inch … Read more

Car and Motorcycle Mounts for the OnePlus 5 SmartPhone

The OnePlus 5 SmartPhone is yet another generation of the successful line of phones from OnePlus.  Faster process, improved cameras and it runs Android 7.1.  A faster phone that supports the latest version of Android.  If you have owed a smartphone, you get the drill, have to get a new phone every few years to keep up with the ownership experience. While the OnePlus 5 sports a diagonal screen at 5.5 inches, this phone is 6.07 x 2.92 x 0.29 inches (154.2 x 74.1 x 7.3 mm).  Not too different from prior generations of OnePlus phones.  Since the dimensions haven’t changed … Read more

Phone, Tablet and GPS Mounts for a GMC Terrain

Figuring the GMC Terrain would be an easy vehicle for mounting devices was a mistake.  Turns out that a few of our go-to locations aren’t going to work well in this vehicle. Our typical interior cockpit view of a GMC Terrain accompanies this article.  The first thing you may notice are large vertical vents.  Those familiar with our site know we aren’t fans of the north/south vent varieties, much preferring the horizontal east/west style. Next, there is no CD player.  This is becoming a common trend in new vehicles.  We have seen this in several other recent car model specific … Read more

Phone and GPS Mounts for a Mini Cooper

The interior of a Mini Cooper has so many bazaar shapes and curves.  Not an easy car to mount a phone or GPS within.  Forget about a tablet, there is no place to fit that device.  it almost like the car designer had a goal of disabling the use of a car mount. Reminds one of a Mazda Miata.  The vents are small and round with narrow slats, there aren’t any useful cup holders and it’s too small of a car for a seat bolt mount.  Same problems as the Miata. A photo of the Mini Cooper interior is attached.  It … Read more

Car and Motorcycle Mounts for the Sony Xperia XZ Premium Smartphone

The Sony Xperia XZ Premium is a nice entry in the arena of higher end smartphones for Android fans.  A little bump in the RAM to 4 GB versus the 3 GB on the standard Sony Xperia XZ makes this phone worth a look.  The extra 33% boost in RAM makes a big difference in performance. The features a respectable 5.46 inch 3840 x 2160 pixel diagonal display.  The main camera checks in with a semi insane 19 MP lens.  Measuring 6.14 x 3.03 x 0.31 inches, this is a larger phone that will need a mount that features a cradle … Read more
