Mounts for the Garmin Striker 7 Fishfinder

Two Garmin Striker 7 models were recently introduced to fill the mid-tier market.  When I compare the Garmin Striker 7 to what one would purchase a few years ago, there are a slew of improvements in mapping features, color display and transducers. There are two models for this series.  From a pure mounting perspective, the Garmin Striker 7sv and Striker 7cv are the same.  Any mount that fits one model, will fit the other. Installation typically requires use of two cables.  One for power.  The second for a transducer.  It’s worth noting that the transducer is included with the Garmin Striker 7sv and Striker 7cv. … Read more

My Experience with the Otterbox Alpha Glass Screen Protector

I recently tried the Otterbox Alpha Glass Screen Protector for a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.  This product, made by Otterbox, is designed to work with their line of cases.  The fortified glass custom fit protector is made to help protect an expensive smartphone from screen damage. A photo of the Otterbox Alpha Glass Screen Protector for a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge retail package accompanies this article. Mounts for Garmin Aera 795 796 GPS

The Garmin Aera 795 and Garmin Aera 796 were released earlier this year for aviation use.  These are great units that feature 3D Vision technology which shows a virtual 3-D behind-the-aircraft perspective of surrounding terrain derived from GPS and the pre-loaded terrain database.  It’s touchscreen so simply slide your finger across the screen to rotate the view and show land and water features, obstacles, runways and airport signposts in relative proximity to the aircraft.  That’s just one of the many neat features of this GPS line. This article isn’t about the Aera.  It’s about the mounts so let’s get started with that discussion. … Read more

Alternative Mounts for the Canary Flex Camera

The Canary Flex was recently introduced as the outdoor solution for Canary fans.  A photo of the Canary Flex accompanies this article and it’s using the magnetic mount that comes with the camera.  That’s exactly what you get in the box with the Canary Flex. The magnetic mount is excellent and very strong.  The Canary Flex attaches very securely to the mount.  The camera can be fully swiveled to get the best angle.  Canary did a nice job on this mount. Unlike their first generation of home security camera called the Canary All-in-One Home Security System, this is made to … Read more

Should you Switch from an Apple to Samsung Smartphone?

The much-anticipated Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus was released in September, 2016.  All hail Apple.  Again.  I guess.  Well, maybe not.  Is it time to switch from an Apple to Samsung smartphone? The key changes announced by Apple were: An upgraded camera on both models.  The Apple iPhone 7 Plus gets a second camera for focus enhancements.  Better cameras are always good. An IP67 waterproof case which is said to protect the iPhone 7 up to one meter.  Nice in case I drop my phone in a puddle. A new home button.  It’s no longer mechanical but seems to … Read more

Something New to Find Your Keys: The Cube Key Finder

I wrote an article about key finders about a year ago called Key Finders for Finding Your Lost Keys.  In that article I took a look at a few different key finders and still use the one that’s pictured.  I recently picked up what is a bit more advanced key finder called the Cube Key Finder.  It uses Bluetooth and even has its own smartphone app. Let’s take a detailed look at the Cube Key Finder. The photo that accompanies this article is my Cube Key Finder.  The product comes with a basic ring that facilitates attachment to a key ring, an … Read more
