Car and Motorcycle Mounts for an LG V30 and LG V30+ Smartphone

LG V30 in a Square Jellyfish Vent MountThe LG V30 carries on where the LG V20 left off.  This series has developed a reputation as a high feature phone with a slightly smaller price tag than the premium brands.

Although the display size is larger than the predecessor, the LG V20, it’s a smaller phone.  Checking in with a large 6.0″ diagonal screen, this phone measures 5.97 x 2.97 x 0.29 inches (151.7 x 75.4 x 7.3 mm) and weighs less than 6 ounces.  Add a case to the phone, and you might be approaching 3.5 inches in width.  Some universal cradles open to 3 inches, so check it out.

The LG V30+ is the same size as the LG V30.  It just has more memory and a set of earbuds included.  So where we mention the LG V30, it applies to the V30+ too.

For those that have a universal mount, hopefully it opens wide enough to hold the LG V30 without a problem. Some universal mounts offer options to upgrade your cradle to a larger one.  We suggest a cradle that opens to at least 3.5 inches wide or at least 6.5 inches high.

Don’t go without protection as these aren’t cheap phones.  Buy a good case for the LG V30.  We have always liked the Otterbox Defender series which we reviewed here, but there are lots of others.  A single drop on your driveway that results in a broken display will cost way more than the case.  If you think insurance will cover you, think again.  Insurance policies purchased from your carrier have a deductible and for newer more expensive phones that can be $169 on up.  So to add insult to injury, you will not only be paying the monthly insurance premium, but you will then pay the deductible.  You can read our article on phone insurance here.

Let’s look at mounts that include cradles that will open wide enough to accommodate an LG V30 even with a thick case.

We continue to like the vent as a place to mount a giant phone like the LG V30.  Consider the Square Jellyfish Jelly-Grip Car Air Vent Mount.  You can see the LG V30 in an Otterbox Defender using this mount in the photo that accompanies this article.  The Square Jellyfish Jelly-Grip will hold the LG V30 with or without a case.  It has a ball and socket so the cradle swivels into any orientation.  This mount will work on flat vent slats that are 3/8 to 1 inch deep.  The included cradle opens to 3 5/8 inches which gives us plenty of room even if your phone has a thick case.

The windshield is the most popular location to mount especially if you plan to use it as a GPS with an application like Waze.  This is a big phone so you need a big cradle.  The Arkon Ultra Slim Grip Suction Mount has an expandable cradle which opens to almost 7 inches.  The phone is held from the top and bottom.  The mount comes with an adhesive dash plate so that you can attach to the mount to your dash as well as your windshield.  The phone can rotate 360 degrees into portrait or landscape using this mount.  This mount comes with a 2-year warranty.

The last place to recommend for a car is the CD player.  Somewhat obsolete in terms of use, the CD player slot can make a handy mount point for the LG V30.  Consider the Mpow CD Player SmartPhone Car Mount.  Be sure to follow the installation instructions that accompany this mount to ensure a secure proper fitting.  The included cradle is expandable to fit your phone with or without a case or skin.  Your phone can swivel 360 degrees in this mount.  The cradle opens to 3.54 inches.

The back of the LG V30 continues the design aspect of locating the finger print scanner and power button on the back of the phone along with a dual camera.  Be sure to get mount featuring a cradle that isn’t going to block the camera and / or press the power button.  You need a cradle that is going to grip the LG V30 right in the middle (if not below the middle) and below that button.  Many of the mounts we usually  recommend for a smartphone on a motorcycle aren’t going to work well with the LG V30 because there’s a good likelihood that the camera or power button might be blocked or pressed in while riding.

The TechGripper Handlebar Mount Kit combines a center gripping cradle with a solid handlebar mount.  The mount is constructed of metal with a plastic cradle.  It fits handlebar diameters from 7/8 to 1.25 inches so it covers the majority of motorcycle models that can accommodate a handlebar mount.  The cradle opens to four inches.  An included small hex wrench is provided for installation.  Rather simple installation.  We always recommend tethering your device when using on a motorcycle for added security.  Safety is of utmost important on a motorcycle so be sure this mount is solidly installed and keep your focus on the road.
