Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for an Infiniti QX60

Infiniti QX60The Infiniti QX60 is a really nice and really large SUV.  We have typically found mounting a phone, GPS or tablet easier in larger vehicles than smaller vehicles.  Surprisingly, the Infiniti QX60 didn’t fit this profile.

Mount Analysis

Our typical photo of the interior of the Infiniti QX60 accompanies this article.  It’s nicer than most living rooms.  The Infiniti QX60 interior is reminiscent of a cross between the traditionally styled Nissan Pathfinder and bazaar shaped Nissan Murano.  A lot of room on the dash, a long reach to the windshield, all coupled with unusually shaped air vents.

Turns out the CD Player is not in a good place on this vehicle.  At least not for mounting anything.  It’s too low and that means mounting a device in this spot will potentially interfere with gear shift use.  Let’s avoid this location.

A car seat bolt mount will not work on an Infiniti QX60.  The seat bolt is not accessible.  While you can use the option to bolt it directly to the floor board, most are not going to want to drill holes into their vehicle’s floor, so let’s steer clear of these.

The Infiniti QX60 has Homelink buttons on the bottom of the mirror.  You can forget a rear view mirror mount as it will press the Homelink buttons in and open and close your garage door for you.  No time for that.

Mount Recommendation for an Infiniti QX60

The windshield is a good location for a smartphone or GPS in an Infiniti QX60.  The problem is that it’s a far reach from the driver’s seat.  As already mentioned, this is a large SUV.  Given the longer reach, we recommend mounts that extend towards the driver versus traditional flush mounts.

The iOttie Easy One Touch 5 Car Mount for SmartPhones provides an extendable rigid base combined with an expandable cradle.  Unlike many similar mounts, the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 has an 8-inch extension feature.  This extension is a welcome feature in the big Infiniti QX60.  The included cradle expands by pressing the buttons on each side.  This is large enough to hold most phones.

Turning the iOttie Easy One Touch 2 into a dash mount is easy.  Add the The iOttie Reusable Dashboard Pad for use on the dash.  It’s a temporary non adhesive accessory.  The bottom has a sticky surface and the top is smooth like a windshield.  Although no wipe is included, be sure to clean the dash area before application.  Now stick the suction cup from the mount to the smooth surface on this dash disk.  When it’s time to remove the iOttie Reusable Dashboard Pad, simply lift the tab and remove.  Wash the bottom with warm soapy water and let it dry.  This recharges the sticky surface.  This dash disk is flexible and may suit some contoured dashboards well.

You may also want to consider an extra long suction cup solution such as the Arkon Extendable Smartphone and Midsize Tablet Mount.  The cradle is spring-loaded and expands to over 7 inches .  It’s going to fit most smartphones and even tablets up to an Apple iPad Mini.  The mount features a metal arm that can extend from 14.5 to 18.5 inches.  The cradle rotates 360 degrees so your device can be in portrait or landscape mode.  The suction cup has a vacuum lock to maintain a secure connection.

The air vent will work ok.  We say ok because the middle Infiniti QX60 air vents slope upwards toward.  A ball and socket mount will be needed to deal with the slope.  Your results may vary with this location.  It’s worth noting that the side air vents are round.  Never had good luck with round vents and car mounts so avoid that location altogether.

If selecting this mounting location, consider the Andobil Air Vent Mount.  This mount can be used to hold most phone models with or without a case.  The ball and socket design facilitates a 360 degree rotation.  The included cradle opens to accommodate phones up to 3.75 inches wide.  The mount uses a unique locking clip to securely attach to horizontal and vertical vents.  The cradle is removable to expose a 17mm ball suitable for a Garmin vehicular GPS such as a Garmin Nuvi or Garmin Drive.

The cup holder is another good location, especially for a tablet.  This location is not recommended for devices running applications like a GPS app where you need to refer to it while driving.  Since it’s out of the field of view, this is better for use where the driver doesn’t need to see it while driving.  Use this location for small to midsize tablets, not larger ones like the Apple iPad Pro.

If you would like to pursue this location, Consider the Cellet Tablet Mount with Cup Holder Base.  These fit practically all size tablets.  The base expands to fit and can fit vehicle cup holders from 2. 86 inches up to 3. 47 inches.  The mount features a ten inch rigid arm and the device can rotate into any orientation.

Summary

So let’s review where we stand on mounts for the Infiniti QX60.  The windshield and dash are good.  Air vent is ok.  Avoid CD player, seat bolt and rear view mirror mounts.
