One of the few phones to sport Oreo Android 8.0, the Huawei Honor V10 is hitting the market. Huawei continues to impress with high end phones sold at a reduced price versus competitors. It will be interesting to see this brand in a few years to see how it competes with Samsung and Apple.
Lets look at the dimensions of the Huawei Mate 10. The phone has a 5.99 inch diagonal display so it’s a bit larger than most smartphones. The Huawei Mate 10 measures in at 6.18 x 2.95 x 0.28 inches (157 x 75 x 7 mm) and weighs 6.07 ounces. Still trying to figure out why they didn’t add the .01 inches to make it a 6 inch display. Must have been an executive that said “I don’t want this thing to be more than 6 inches or more”.
As we always do in our smartphone articles, be sure to buy a good case for this. We continue to recommend the Otterbox Defender series. We have written several articles on the site and we compare their models on our site. A single drop on ceramic tile that results in a broken display will cost way more than a good case. If you think insurance will cover you, think again. Insurance policies purchased from your carrier have a deductible and for newer more expensive phones that can be $169 on up. Anyway, let’s look at some mounts for the Huawei Honor V10. We will recommend mounts that use expandable cradles. Why? So that you can mount your phone with or without a case or skin. We will recommend holders that open sufficiently enough to fit the phone, and add some more space for a well made case.
For the car, give the location of your mount some thought. There are lots of places to mount your Huawei Honor V10.
First up, consider the Arkon MegaGrip Windshield and Dash Mount for Smartphones. The expandable cradle opens to 3.4 inches and grabs the phone from the sides. A vacuum locked suction cup ensures a secure adhesion to your windshield. The accompanying dash disk can be deployed to turn this mount into a dashboard variety. Be sure to follow the installation instructions that accompany this mount to ensure a secure proper fitting. The included cradle is expandable to fit your phone with or without a case or skin. Your phone can swivel 360 degrees in this mount.
The vent mount is another good choice for a Huawei Honor V10. We recommend using the center air vents. The Square Jellyfish Jelly-Grip Car Air Vent Mount is one of our favorite vent mounts. The Square Jellyfish Jelly-Grip mount can be used to hold your phone with or without a case (like we already said, get a case). It has a ball and socket so the cradle swivels into any orientation. This mount will work on flat vent slats that are 3/8 to 1 inch deep. The included cradle opens to 3 5/8 inches.
Like other recent smartphones from this company, the camera and finger print scanner are located in the upper middle on the back of the phone. This provides a challenge on a motorcycle and you need a cradle that will not block the camera and / or press the power button. You need a cradle that is going to grip the Huawei Honor V10 in the middle and below that button. So a lot of the mounts we normally recommend for a smartphone on a motorcycle aren’t going to work well with the Huawei Honor V10 because we don’t want to block the camera or rear buttons.
So consider the TechGripper Handlebar Mount Kit. The included cradle opens to 4 inches. The part that attaches to the handlebar is metal and coated black. It fits handlebar diameters from 7/8 to 1.25 inches so it covers the majority of motorcycle models that can accommodate a handlebar mount. The mount takes up .75 inches of handlebar space and the phone sits somewhat close to the handlebar. Installation of the mount is completed with a small hex wrench which is provided. This is a nice feature that helps prevent theft of the mount since most thieves aren’t walking around with a set of hex wrenches. Installation is quick and can be done without a mechanic. We always recommend tethering your device for added security. Do not interface with your phone while riding.
