Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze DetectorFaithful readers of our MountGuys site know we like to stray from our traditional phone, motorcycle and car mount articles once in a while.  So today, we’ll talk about the Honeywell Lyric Wi-Fi Water Leak and Freeze Detector.  Specifically we’ll discuss where to place the Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector and how to mount it.

Why do you need one of these?  Those that have experienced a leaking hot water heater can appreciate the advantage of knowing there’s a leak as soon as it hits.  A delay can be very costly.  As in, buy a new carpet and paint the walls costly.  In fact, the damage from a leaking hot water heater can surpass the cost of the replacement unit.  Adding a Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector makes a lot of sense as it alerts you to a presence of water shortly after detection.  These can also be placed under the kitchen or bathroom sink, or next to a toilet.

The Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector is a WiFi enabled device so you can place it anywhere within the reach of your wireless router.  An easy to use app pairs with the Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector so that you can monitor the environment.  The Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector reports temperature and humidity up to three times daily.

Once you have the Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector connected, it’s time to figure out where to place it.

We can make this easy.  The photo that accompanies this article shows a Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector placed on a floor next to a hot water heater.  This will work fine.  The water detectors can be found at the bottom of the Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector.  So if you have space and don’t mind it sitting out on the floor, you’re all done.  Enjoy using your Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector.

If you would prefer to not have the device on the floor, there’s a mounting notch on the back of the device.  Use the included screw to hang the Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector from a wood beam or anywhere that you don’t mind making a hole.  Be sure to insert the optional cable sensor into the side of the device.  Just remove the black plug.  If the cable sensor isn’t long enough, consider increasing the length by adding the Lyric Wi-Fi Leak and Freeze Detector add-on Rope Sensor.

Now, for those that would like to avoid using the screw in the wall mount, here’s an idea to attach your Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector to a wall without making any holes.  Consider the eLhook Stick-on Small Shelf.  We looked at similar product from this company for home security cameras and they work well.  These small shelves attach to a wall or practically any vertical surface using temporary adhesive strips.  Place the Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector on the shelf and run the cable sensor through the hole that is molded into the shelf.  The advantage here is no holes need to be made in the wall.  Remove the temporary adhesive strips if needed.  No holes.

The Honeywell Lyric Water Leak and Freeze Detector is a nice accessory for adding some remote monitoring abilities to a home or office.  It’s certainly less expensive than the damage caused by a bad leak in a hot water heater.
