Motorcycle and Car Mounts for Garmin Nuvi 2455LMT, 2455LT, 2475LT and 2495LMT GPS

Motorcycle and Car Mounts for Garmin Nuvi 2455LMT, 2455LT, 2475LT and 2495LMT GPSThis line of GPS models was introduced by Garmin in 2011.  These units are still in use several years later and we’re finding the GPS is outlasting the mounts, hence our article about mounting options for this series of popular devices.  All of these GPS models have a subscription to traffic alerts and two have a lifetime map subscription.  Devices like the Garmin Nuvi 2455LMT with an LMT or LM after the number have a lifetime map subscription and those that have an LT or LMT have a lifetime traffic subscription.

If you have any of these units that have a traffic subscription, don’t lose the cable.  Your traffic subscription is tied to the actual cable itself.  If you lose your cable, you will need to replace with a very expensive (about $60) traffic charger.  A plain car charger will not provide you with traffic, you need to buy the model with traffic integrated.  The ‘Lifetime” part is attached to the cable.  Lose the cable and lose your lifetime traffic.

Let’s take a closer look at the mounts.  Since the very first Nuvi, Garmin has used a design which incorporates a custom cradle with a socket on the back.  This cradle fits over a 17mm ball which is at the end of the mount.  There is a custom cradle that snaps over the top and bottom of the Nuvi.  You can remove that cradle by simply pulling it off the ball.  That allows use of a lot of alternative mounting solutions.

The mount that is provided with this line of GPS is the Garmin Vehicle Suction Cup.  It looks somewhat similar to the photo that accompanies this article.  This includes the same mounting base that Garmin has used for over ten years.  Garmin changes the cradle, not the base mount so there’s a custom holder for the Garmin Nuvi 2455LMT as well as the other models listed in this article.  Garmin also includes an adhesive disk for those that wish to use it on the dashboard.  If you would rather not put adhesive on your dash, you could use this cradle with Garmin’s highly regarded bean bag mount which we discussed in a prior article.

Don’t like the mount in the box?  Vent mounts have been available for many years but Garmin didn’t release one of these until 2013.  Finally coming out with a Garmin Car Air Vent Mount of their own, Garmin’s entry is a very well made mount.  Unlike many of their competitors, Garmin saw the need for a vent mount with a clamp on the back if it.  This means these mounts will fit horizontal and vertical vents.

The CD Player is becoming a more popular place to mount a device.   Consider the APPS2Car CD Slot Mount GPS Holder.  This mount has the 17mm ball common to the back of the Garmin cradle.  It’s not hard to install, but be sure to follow the instructions carefully to ensure it’s installed properly.  The CD Player is often a good location especially if it is located near eye level at the center of the dash.

On the motorcycle, the best manufacturer from our experience is RAM Mounts.  They make a custom cradle for this GPS.  The RAM Holder for Garmin Nuvi 2455LMT, 2455LT, 2475LT and 2495LMT GPS fits these devices like a glove.  They snap right into the custom cradle for a very secure hold.  Couple these holders with a RAM Motorcycle Handlebar Mount to complete your configuration.  These mounts are made of metal and have a ball and socket connection at the base and cradle.  The arm is three inches tall.  Sure, these cost a little more but throw in a lifetime warranty and these are worth the premium.
