Car Mounts for the Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar Detector

Windshield Suction Cup Car Mount for Escort Passport 8500 X50The Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar Detector is one of the more popular radar detectors manufactured by Escort over the past several years.  While it will work well for many years, the car mount will not.

There’s a good chance that the Escort Passport 8500 X50 radar detector will outlast the mount.  This is a well made and expensive radar detector.  Unfortunately the mount isn’t made as well as the radar detector.  The small suction cups will likely lose suction after a year or two.  This is especially going to be the case if living in extreme climates.

The mount that is provided with the Escort Passport 8500 X50 is Escort’s standard  double suction cup with a tab which fits into the slot at the top of the radar detector.  If the mount fails, it’s likely not sticking on your windshield.  You may not need to replace it yet.  Be sure to clean your windshield well prior to adhesion.  You might also be able to simply replace the suction cups on the mount if you can find them.

If you can’t save it, or are simply unhappy with the stock mount, the Arkon Car Windshield Suction Cup Mount for Escort and Bel Radar Detectors is superior to what comes in the box.  It’s the mount in the photo that accompanies this article.  Like the stock mount, this one has the tab that slides into the slot at the top of the Escort Passport 8500 X50 radar detector.  Unlike the stock mount, this one has a single larger suction cup that will likely hold up better.  The mount has a vacuum feature to drastically improve the suction functionality.  These come with a 2 year warranty from the manufacturer.

Who says that a radar detector has to be attached to your windshield?  Certainly not California or Minnesota where,  as outlined in our article, mounting to your windshield is against the law.  Let’s take a look at what is out there for places other than your windshield.

Your car dash is an excellent location to mount to mount your Escort Passport 8500 X50 Radar Detector.  Consider the Car Dash Mount for Radar Detectors.  The device is attached to a flat platform using included Velcro strips.  The bottom of the mount has a suction cup and the kit includes an adhesive disk to stick to your dash.  The suction cup sticks to the round disk just like a windshield.  Keeps the radar detector in a great spot for viewing.

The rear view mirror is another location that’s becoming a more popular spot to mount devices.  The PerformancePackage Rear View Mirror Mount for the 9500ix and 8500×50 Radar Detectors includes an attachment that will fit your rear view mirror.  The mount uses a clamp to attach to the rear view mirror.  Also included is a tab attachment that slides into the slot at the top of the Escort Passport 8500 X50.  There are adjustment points built within the mount to get you the right angle and pivot.

Although not my favorite location for a radar detector, the passenger’s sun visor is another place to mount your Escort Passport 8500 X50.  This Escort Visor Clip Mount for Radar and Laser Detectors fits the slot on top of the radar detector.  The downside of a sun visor mount is lack of visibility and the fact that you disable the ability to use the visor.  If choosing a visor mount, be sure that you have no plans to interface with it while driving (which you shouldn’t be doing anyway).

Select the location that’s not going to interfere with your driving, is legal to use in your state and is easy to remove.  Don’t leave your Escort Passport 8500 X50 in the car.  Thieves love to steal these.  I know that from personal experience.
