The Arkon Windshield Dash Garmin Nuvi Suction Mount is an old favorite of mine. I have recommended countless times over the many years it has been available.
I remember when Arkon made cell phone and satellite radio mounts. No need for GPS mounts because they weren’t yet mainstream enough in cars. Times have changed. Arkon now makes one of the most diverse lines of GPS mounts around. They have Garmin Nuvi mounts for almost any place in a vehicle. The Arkon mount line for Garmin Nuvi all features the same 17mm ball as the ones from Garmin do so you know that your Nuvi cradle will fit fine. I should also mention that the Arkon 17mm ball will also fit the new Garmin Drive series of GPS. So just because the package may have left the Garmin Drive off, don’t worry it will fit fine. These also fit the Garmin Dash Cam, NuviCam and the dezl lines. Anything with that 17mm socket.
The Arkon Windshield Dash Suction Garmin Nuvi Suction Mount was one of Arkon’s first mounts for a GPS and it’s kept the same design since it came out many years ago. No need to change it sice Garmin never changed their ball and socket cradle design. Also no need to change a mount that works perfectly.
I always regarded this mount superior to the Garmin basic suction cup mount that comes in the box with the GPS. The Arkon variety is a larger and more ruggedly built mount. You have more options for adjustment. Because the mount is longer, it will work well on almost any size Nuvi and works well in an SUV where a little extra reach is appreciated.
There are two components with this Arkon mount. The main part is the suction cup mount. There is a vacuum lock on the suction cup mount which is activated by pressing down once it’s in place. The suction cup will adhere to any smooth flat surface. An adjustment point is located halfway down on the mount and that allows the mount to angle up or down while twisting the knob. The end of the mount has a 17mm ball that snaps into the Garmin cradle that you received with your GPS. The cradle is easy to remove and attach to a new mount. The mount also includes an 80mm adhesive dash plate. The photo that accompanies this article shows how the mount can be attached to the adhesive plate. This is a terrific add-on especially for drivers in states that do not permit mounting a GPS to a windshield (sorry California). The adhesive plate attaches to any clean flat surface using the adhesive pad that is attached to the bottom. After attaching the adhesive pad to the dashboard, let it sit overnight to give it time to set. After that, you can attach the suction cup to the adhesive dash plate the same as you would on a windshield.
