Today, we take a closer look at the Arkon ARMBAND6 sports armband for the largest phones available today. These are marketed to fit a phones with a diagonal screen size of up to 6.3 inches. These include models such as the Apple iPhone 6 Plus, Samsung Galaxy Mega, Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (there are several others that are coming in this large these days). However, when I was taking a closer look at this product, I also realized that these will fit smaller phones that are using big giant cases with some room to spare. The phone in the picture is of an Apple iPhone 5s in an Otterbox Defender case. As owners of these cases already know, these add a considerable amount of depth to the phone, and with the addition of the rubber skin, these are very difficult to slide into an armband. The ARMBAND6 is large enough so that you can easily slip your phone with the Otterbox attached into it.
The case comes in a plastic bag with the Arkon placard attached to the top. The ARMBAND6 is made to fit your bicep (upper arm). The case itself has an adjustable elastic band attached that should fit almost any bicep. The adjustment is made with a combination of a buckle and Velcro. The armband itself has a few reflective markers on it which adds to your safety if running at night and is again unique to the Arkon line. Once you have it set to the diameter of your bicep, the armband will retain the size, so you only need to set it once. The back of the ARMBAND6 is a soft nylon. Inside the case is a small pouch and, as far as I know, this is unique to the Arkon line of armbands. Use this pouch to place your credit cards, driver’s license or a key. When working out at a gym, you likely have a few things that you always carry with you and this is a good place to stash it and not have to worry about it falling out of your pocket or being left in the cup holder of a treadmill (been there done that). The top and bottom of the case has slits for your headphone or ear buds.
Inserting your phone into the ARMBAND 6 is easy enough. There is an expandable flap at the top of the case which when pulled open will expose the interior of the case. Simply slide your phone into the opening then pull the flap over the phone. As mentioned earlier, this is a big sports armband. My iPhone 5s with the Otterbox fit real easily with slots of room to spare and I suspect even the largest phone with a case will also fit. Removal of your phone is equally as easy, just open the flap and slide it out.
Trying this out while my local Planet Fitness, you really don’t even notice it after you have it on for 15 minutes. It didn’t get in the way of my workout although I would think it all depends upon what activities you are doing in the gym. Interacting with the touchscreen of the phone through the lens of the ARMBAND6 worked fine and this included working though a double lens since my iPhone 5s has a screen protector as part of the Otterbox. After the workout, I did not notice any moisture getting inside the pouch which as I think about it is a prerequisite for any good armband.
The Arkon ARMBAND6 is a solid sports armband that I would recommend.
