TomTom Trucker 600 GPS Mounts

A nice addition for the TomTom Trucker 600 GPS MountThe TomTom Trucker 600 is made for truckers.  These compete nicely with the Garmin dezl trucker GPS lineup.  A lifetime traffic and map update subscription bundled with features unique to trucker use.  The TomTom Trucker 600 features customized routes for the vehicle type, size, weight, cargo and speed.  A nice sized 6 inch display makes it easy to see the maps.  The internal battery provides two hours of use without power.

The TomTom Trucker 600 is sold primarily in the United States.  I believe it to be similar to the TomTom Trucker 6000 sold in Europe.  I would therefore believe the mount recommendation made for a TomTom Trucker 600 to be applicable to a TomTom Trucker 6000 too.

The included mount is shared with several other TomTom GPS models from the TomTom Go vehicle series.  The TomTom Click and Go Mount has a powered cradle attached via ball and socket to a suction cup mount.  The TomTom Trucker 600 is seated within the powered holder.  The back of the holder is powered meaning there is a USB port on the back where the charger plugs into.  The included suction cup part of the mount has a twist lock vacuum lock.

The TomTom Click and Go Mount isn’t the greatest design in the world but it’s all they offer.  I have found this mount to mix poorly with large hands.  A mount with a lever would have worked so much better.  A longer mount would have also worked better.  Large trucks have a long reach to the windshield.  A long reach is created with this short neck mount.

Fortunately there are ways to improve the usability of the mount included with the TomTom Trucker 600.  Let’s a look at a few mounting solutions.

The Arkon Friction Dashboard Mount  is the mount featured in the photo that accompanies this article.  It weighs in at roughly 1.5 pounds, is black in color and measures 8 x 7 inches.  These mounts are made to work in conjunction with your suction cup mount.  The mount features an attached 80mm smooth round plastic plate which is a bit larger than the diameter of the TomTom Trucker 600 suction cup.  Attach the suction cup mount to the center plate just like it was your windshield.

The bottom is covered by a rubber coating which minimizes movement when on the dash.  The safety anchor has an adhesive bottom and can be placed on your dashboard.  The mount itself has a small loop attached to the back of it which allows you to attach it to the adhesive safety anchor.  This improves the stability of the mount during sudden stops.

The Arkon 90mm Adhesive Mounting Disk for Dashboards consists of a round plastic plate with an adhesive bottom.  The plastic plate is smooth like your windshield and the TomTom Trucker 600 suction cup mount will stick to it like glass.  Be sure to apply this to a clean dashboard.  Wipe off any oil or dust with some good cleaner and allow 24 hours for the adhesive to cure prior to use.  A major drawback to this type of mount is that it’s fairly permanent.  We offer some advice on how to remove one of these mounts in this article.

Until TomTom offers some alternative mounting solutions for the TomTom Trucker 600, we are limited with our suggestions.  We will update this article when we see anything new hit the market.
