TaoTronics Car Air Vent Magnetic Smartphone Mount Review

I became acquainted with the TaoTronics Car Air Vent Magnetic Smartphone Mount out of my attempt to mount my Apple iPhone in my brand new Nissan Murano.  It’s one of the hardest vehicles I have seen in terms of mounting a device.  The middle vents have a giant lip under them and I’m a big fan of vent mounts.  Knowing about the giant lip under the vents, I was searching for a mount that would attach to the slats and extend over the lip. The photo that accompanies this article shows what you get in the small box.  There’s a … Read more…

Car Air Vent Mounts

The air vent is one of my favorite mounting locations.  I like it because it keeps the device right where it’s convenient for you to see it.  I also like the fact that it keeps your device out of clear site of any potential bad guys.  A vent mount is not clearly seen in a parking lot versus the traditional windshield suction cup mount or one for the dash.  Most dash mounts are easy to install.  Depending upon the vent mount, some are easy to remove (and some are not). Choosing the Right Cell Phone Car Mount

I remember when mobile phones first went mainstream with the infamous bag phone.  It costs 99 cents per minute to make a call.  You took a rubber antenna and used a suction cup to stick it to your windshield.  Call quality was sketchy and you only used it in an emergency.  That was about 25 years ago.  These have come a long way.  Next time you sit down at a restaurant, take a look around.  People no longer talk to each other while waiting for their dinner to arrive, they’re checking out Facebook on their phones. The use of mobile … Read more…

XM and Sirius Satellite Radio Mounts

Ever wonder how a company started that specializes in electronics mounts?  The first mount we ever sold was a seat bolt mount for a Delphi Skyfi XM Radio.  Tired of having our personal radio plop onto the floor because the sticky tape didn’t hold, we found a mount that attached to the back of the Skyfi cradle that also attached to the car seat bolt.  We were so impressed with ourselves, we put one on eBay.  That was a long time ago.  We now sell thousands of mounts every year for everything from XM radios to Garmin GPS units and … Read more…

Using a GPS in California or Minnesota

What do the states of Minnesota and California have in common?  Tick tick tick tick… Give up?  Up until fairly recently, it was illegal to put a GPS on your windshield in those states.  Imagine buying a new GPS with the suction mount and getting pulled over a few days later for using the mount in the box.  We got all kinds of stories from people after their wallet was $100 lighter and sold a lot of vent, cup holder and dash mounts as a result.  Fortunately, these two holdouts have now joined the rest of the country in permitting attachment … Read more…
