TechMatte MagGrip Car Air Vent Smartphone Mount Product Review

I’m a big fan of magnetic car mounts.  It’s so much easier than using a cradle.  Familiarity with the TechMatte name started with their CD player mount.  I recently picked up one of their vent mounts.  It’s called the TechMatte MagGrip Car Air Vent Smartphone Mount. I have found that all magnetic mounts are not made the same.  Some have very weak magnets that do not work well through a thick case.  Other mounts may not hold onto a vent well.  A good magnetic car air vent mount isn’t going to drop your device when you hit a bump. The … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Nissan Maxima

I recently had a chance to get a close look at the Nissan Maxima.  The Nissan Maxima has a very nice interior.  Lots of good places for a mount but I found a few locations that will not work. As always, a photo of the interior is attached to this article.  It’s a somewhat conventional design.  Having a Nissan Murano myself as my day-to-day vehicle, I was concerned about all the strange curves present in the Murano’s design.  Apparently, the Nissan Maxima designers were more on the normal side.  Not a lot of radical curves or lips. The most popular location for mounting … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Toyota 4Runner

I travel a lot and rent all kinds of cars.  Today, the good folks are Budget Car Rental were good enough to upgrade me a Toyota 4Runner.  That means its time for a vehicle specific article on how to mount a cell phone, tablet or GPS in a Toyota 4Rrunner. A photo of the interior of a Toyota 4Runner accompanies this article.  It’s a fairly spacious interior with a fit of a further reach to the windshield.  Nice flat dash but not overly deep which will limit use as a mounting location.  Normal horizontal vents are present.  The cup holder placement is … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for an Acura MDX

Most SUVs are easy to mount a mobile device within and the Acura MDX is a typical SUV.  I owned an Acura MDX for almost eight years and it was a great car.  One of the easier SUVs to mount a cell phone, tablet or GPS.  Lots of space.  Except for perhaps the dash, no unusual curves or bumps.  Lots of different places will work well in an Acura MDX but there were a few mounts and holders that simply won’t work.  Especially on the dashboard. We always try to have a photo of the interior accompany our vehicle specific articles.  A photo of … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Mercedes-Benz GLK350

I was able to get a look inside a Mercedes-Benz GLK350 the other day.  I instantly snap into MountGuys Labs mode to figure out what mounts will work. A photo of the interior of a Mercedes-Benz GLK350 accompanies this article.  It’s a fairly compact interior and finding good mounting locations was unexpectedly difficult.  So let’s see what’s going to work. My first choice for phone mounts goes to the windshield.  Nothing freakish about the windshield slope.  Not like my Nissan Murano. My recommendation for the Mercedes-Benz GLK350 windshield mount is the Arkon MegaGrip Suction Cup Windshield and Dash Mount.  The suction mount features … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Toyota Camry

The Toyota Camry is one of those vehicles that can accept almost any mount.  Not a lot that will not work in this car but there are a few locations that will work better than others.  Last week, I looked at the Jeep Renegade which was the exact opposite, almost nowhere to mount anything.  This restores my faith that car designers haven’t lost their minds. As usual, a photo of the interior is attached to this article.  It’s a very conventional design.  Not a lot of unexpected curves or lips.  Even the seat bolt is exposed.  Normally, I go on to … Read more…
