Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Nissan Maxima

I recently had a chance to get a close look at the Nissan Maxima.  The Nissan Maxima has a very nice interior.  Lots of good places for a mount but I found a few locations that will not work. As always, a photo of the interior is attached to this article.  It’s a somewhat conventional design.  Having a Nissan Murano myself as my day-to-day vehicle, I was concerned about all the strange curves present in the Murano’s design.  Apparently, the Nissan Maxima designers were more on the normal side.  Not a lot of radical curves or lips. The most popular location for mounting … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Mazda CX-5 SUV

This week, I had the opportunity to drive a Mazda CX-5 SUV.  Nice size for an intermediate SUV.  Can’t say I’m a fan of the touch screen interface but there are a lot of good places to mount a phone, GPS or tablet. A photo of the interior of a Mazda CX-5 accompanies this article.  Decent size with the usual long reach to the windshield common to an SUV.  Normal horizontal vents and a long reach down to the cup holders.  So let’s scope out some mount options. The windshield is probably the best place to mount a phone.  My … Read more…

Car and Motorcycle Mounts for an Old Navigon GPS

I became a big fan of Navigon about ten years ago.  Their software and hardware was ahead of the rest.  That included Garmin, TomTom and Magellan.  There must have been something to it because Garmin purchased Navigon in 2011.  They quickly discontinued Navigon hardware but integrated some of their unique software features into today’s GPS, especially around the traffic views on the Garmin Nuvi and Drive GPS. Although you can’t buy a new Navigon GPS, you can purchase their iOS or Android apps.  I see the iOS app available for around $50.  Never tried it as I’m a fan of Waze … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Vintage Car

We’re going to talk about where to mount a mobile device within a vintage automobile.  I’m sure the designers of any vintage car never dreamed of what we’re using today, let alone mounting it in a car. When you think about almost any vintage car, the typical places where we would like to mount a phone, GPS or tablet start to become difficult to find.  Depending upon when the vintage car was manufactured, there may not be an air vent because there wasn’t any such thing as air conditioning.  A cup holder in a vintage car?  Don’t think so.  CD … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Chevy Equinox

Today we get a look at the interior of a Chevy Equinox and we’ll recommend some mount options for a phone, GPS and tablet.  The Chevy Equinox has surprisingly few choices for car mount locations. A photo of the interior of a Chevy Equinox accompanies this article.  There’s not much to the interior dash.  Sometimes that’s good, sometimes not.  On a Chevy Equinox, it’s not so good.  You can see that the owner of this vehicle decided to glue his E-ZPass to the dash.  He should have read our article about E-ZPass Car Mounts. Using a windshield mount is the easiest … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Mercedes-Benz GLK350

I was able to get a look inside a Mercedes-Benz GLK350 the other day.  I instantly snap into MountGuys Labs mode to figure out what mounts will work. A photo of the interior of a Mercedes-Benz GLK350 accompanies this article.  It’s a fairly compact interior and finding good mounting locations was unexpectedly difficult.  So let’s see what’s going to work. My first choice for phone mounts goes to the windshield.  Nothing freakish about the windshield slope.  Not like my Nissan Murano. My recommendation for the Mercedes-Benz GLK350 windshield mount is the Arkon MegaGrip Suction Cup Windshield and Dash Mount.  The suction mount features … Read more…
