Should you Switch from an Apple to Samsung Smartphone?

The much-anticipated Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus was released in September, 2016.  All hail Apple.  Again.  I guess.  Well, maybe not.  Is it time to switch from an Apple to Samsung smartphone? The key changes announced by Apple were: An upgraded camera on both models.  The Apple iPhone 7 Plus gets a second camera for focus enhancements.  Better cameras are always good. An IP67 waterproof case which is said to protect the iPhone 7 up to one meter.  Nice in case I drop my phone in a puddle. A new home button.  It’s no longer mechanical but seems to … Read more

Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Car and Home Mounts

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 comes in two flavors: small and large.  The small Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 sports a 7.0″ inch screen which is typical for Samsung’s small end tablets.  The large flavor has a 10.1″ display which I think is a good size versus some of the larger sized displays I have seen lately from the likes of Samsung.  Both tablets feature a real nice 1280 x 780 display and have the ability to run two applications simultaneously. The Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 is a typical tablet in this midsize range as far as size is concerned.   Without a case … Read more

The Samsung Galaxy Tab A 9.7 sports a 1.2 Ghz quad-core processor, 16 GB of flash memory (ROM), 1.5 GB RAM memory and (unlike an iPad) the ability to use a micro SD card.  The 9.7″ diagonal display has the ability to display 16 million colors at 768 x 1024 pixels.  The tablet has excellent battery life at up to 15 hours between charges.  It comes with the Android 5.0 operating system. The Galaxy Tab A 9.7 is an interestingly shaped tablet.  Not quite as large as a full size tablet but a little larger than a midsize tablet.  Not surprisingly, this makes finding … Read more

Mounts and Accessories for the Big Giant Samsung Galaxy S4, Note, Mega

As everyone knows, the size of mobile phones have been growing at a rapid pace.  The largest phones are now pretty much the same size as a small tablet.  I recently used a friend’s Samsung Galaxy Mega.  With a 6.3 inch diagonal screen size, it is almost the size of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7 which has a 7 inch diagonal screen size.  The Samsung Galaxy S4 isn’t far behind in size. To be truthful, it felt pretty awkward to use.  However, they are selling and the market is accepting these larger phones as the way to go as evidenced … Read more

Adding an External GPS Antenna to a Verizon Wireless Network Extender

While Verizon has some of the best coverage in the country, there are places where it’s not that great.  This is especially true when inside a brick building or deep within an office building.  It’s also the case in areas where building codes are stringent to minimize damage from earthquakes and hurricanes (Florida for example).  Verizon came up with a solution by offering a wireless network extender.  These extenders are made by Samsung.  These work real well in that they act as a repeater taking in the cell signal then re-transmitting within your building.  The issue is that the deeper … Read more

Locking Mounts for iPads, Other Tablets

There are a lot of reasons to lock your iPad and this article will discuss why you would want to do that and some ideas on how to do it. Over the many years of working in this industry, we came upon many examples of why someone would lock their iPad.  Here are a few specific examples. A trucking company wanted to provide their drivers with tablets to detail delivery manifests and provide directions to the destination via GPS. A restaurant uses iPads to display the day’s special when coming in.  The tablets are in plain view in a crowded … Read more
