Mounts and Tripods for the 360fly Camera

The 360Fly camera is currently available in two different models.  Both models share a common mounting method which is enabled with a 1/4″ – 20 threaded screw hole.  This screw hole is common to a tripod as well as most camera mounts. The 360Fly isn’t the lightest camera in the world nor is it the least expensive.  Use a heavy duty mount that’s made to hold the camera steadily and reliably. Let’s look at some mounts and tripods for the 360fly Camera. Care for a basic tripod?  Consider the Ravelli APLT4 61-inch Light Weight Aluminum Tripod With Bag which works fine with … Read more…

Car and Motorcycle Mounts for the Moto Z Smartphone

The Moto Z was introduced in June of 2016 and has become fairly popular among Android fans.  Motorola has launched several variations of the Moto Z including the Moto Z Play and Moto Z Force.  The sizes of these models are similar and our mount recommendations will work on all three models. With a large 5.5 inch diagonal screen, the Moto Z measures 6.04 x 2.96 x 0.20 in inches (153.3 x 75.3 x 5.2 mm) and weighs in at 4.8 ounces which is remarkably light.  These are the measurements to keep in mind when selecting a mount.  I’m not aware of any … Read more…

Magellan eXplorist TRX7 Mounts for ATV, UTV and 4x4s

We do not write much about Magellan devices.  No longer the large player they were ten years back, they have a much smaller distribution versus their competition.  The Magellan eXplorist TRX7 was introduced a short time ago to fill an interesting void.  The intended audience of the Magellan eXplorist TRX7 is the off-road crowd.  We’re talking about a 4×4, UTV or ATV vehicle. What makes the Magellan eXplorist TRX7 suited for off-road use?  A few options.  First the device is rated as IP67 which means it’s protected against the effect of water up to one meter deep.  That means it’s weatherproof.  Note the term weatherproof. … Read more…

Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx Mounts for Boats, Cars and Other Places

One of the longest life Garmin model series I have seen was the old GPSMAP series from over ten years ago.  The initial marketing was for marine use.  The devices doubled as a car GPS and marine chartplotter.  Soon, they also began to show up in cars and even on handlebars.  A lot of these devices are in use today and that’s probably why they introduced the Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx.  It’s probably time for an upgrade if still using a GPS from over ten years ago so why not stick with the beloved GPSMAP series. The new Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Camera Mounts for a Honda CBR1000RR Motorcycle

On a warm November day, I made a trip to the Jersey Shore.  Always looking for ideas for mount articles, I ran into a Honda CBR1000RR.  My first thought was how do you mount something to this motorcycle? Fortunately I was able to get a good look and even snap a photo of the cockpit which is attached to this article.  Turns out there are a few locations that will work well on a Honda CBR1000RR to mount a phone, GPS or camera. The reason the Honda CBR1000RR isn’t a straightforward mount project is there’s a lack of handlebar real … Read more…

Mounts for a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic Motorcycle

I recently took a look at a  Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic motorcycle while visiting my local Harley showroom here in New Jersey.  I should have taken a photo of the two-up seat because that’s as close to a living room as I have seen on a motorcycle. The photo that accompanies this article is of a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide Ultra Classic cockpit.  There are two excellent locations for mounting a device in the handlebar and clutch.  That’s typical for many Harley models.  While I suppose we could also go with a gas tank mount, I think it would look awkward so … Read more…
