Car and Motorcycle Mounts for the Motorola Moto Z

The Motorola Moto Z also known as the Motorola Moto Z Droid in the US is the company’s latest entry in the lucrative high-end smartphone lineup. The size specifications are average for the smartphone universe.  With a 5.5″ AMOLED touchscreen, 16M colors display using Gorilla Glass 4 this phone is 6.04 x 2.96 x 0.20 inches (very thin isn’t it).  These are important measurements to keep in mind when selecting your mount.  For those with a mount from an older phone, you may find the Motorola Moto Z will fit fine.  Most universal mounts offer options to upgrade your cradle to … Read more…

Car and Motorcycle Mounts for the Motorola Moto G4 and G4 Plus

The Motorola Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus were both introduced in May of 2016.  Both phones implement a powerful Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor.  The Motorola Moto G4 comes with 2GB of RAM and the more expensive Moto G4 Plus has 4GB.  The cameras are decent with a 13MP lens on the Motorola Moto G4 and 16MP Moto G4 Plus.  When you get to these large of MP, I’m not too sure the average person can really tell the difference. With a nice large 5.5 inch diagonal measured screen using Corning Gorilla Glass 3, both phones measure the same at … Read more…

Mounts for Yamaha YZF-R3 Motorcycles

The Yamaha YZF-R3 is one of the company’s best selling motorcycles.  The challenge of mounting anything on this model motorcycle is the lack of a traditional handlebar.  Brands like Harley-Davidson make mounting phones, GPS devices and cameras easy because these have a traditional handlebar with a lot of real estate.  Just pick a well made handlebar mount with a quality holder, attach it to the handlebar and off you go.  Not so with the Yamaha YZF-R3.  So let’s take a look at some options. As I investigated what types of mounts fit the Yamaha YZF-R3, I found it to be … Read more…

RAM Twist Lock Suction Cup Mount with X-Grip Cradle Review

I remember when RAM first introduced the X-Grip cradle.  It was one of the most unusual looking cradles I had ever seen.  It was a completely different way of thinking about a universal cell phone cradle.  I ordered a batch and tried one out.  The X-Grip was easy to use and could be operated with one hand.  This was not your basic plastic cradle.  Made of mostly metal, the X-Grip holder held my old iPhone more tightly than anything I had seen to date.  Coupled with the Twist Lock Suction Cup assembly and metal arm, the RAM Twist Lock Suction Cup Mount … Read more…

Car and Motorcycle Mounts for the Samsung Galaxy S5

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is one of the company’s largest sellers ever.  With a respectable 5.1 inch diagonal screen this phone measures 5.59 x 2.85 x 0.32 inches (142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm) and weighs 5.11 ounces.  These are typical dimensions for a smartphone.  Important to keep this size in mind when selecting a mount.  No custom cradles exist that I have seen, so a universal holder is going to be necessary.  It’s going to need to open at least 2.85 inches, potentially larger if using a case or skin. Speaking of cases or skins, buy a case for your Samsung … Read more…

Kymco Scooter Mounts for Phones, GPS and Cameras

This is our second scooter mount article.  A recent inquiry led us to investigate the topic of device mounts for a Kymco Xciting scooter.  Kymco manufactures a large variety of scooters ranging from the entry-level 50cc Super 8 to the top of the line Xciting 500Ri ABS.  We are going to give some ideas on how to mount cameras, smartphones and GPS units. Mounting devices on any scooter is more challenging than placing them on a motorcycle.  That’s because most scooters aren’t built like motorcycles.  A motorcycle typically has some empty space on the handlebar where a clamp can easily be … Read more…
