Magellan eXplorist TRX7 Mounts for ATV, UTV and 4x4s

We do not write much about Magellan devices.  No longer the large player they were ten years back, they have a much smaller distribution versus their competition.  The Magellan eXplorist TRX7 was introduced a short time ago to fill an interesting void.  The intended audience of the Magellan eXplorist TRX7 is the off-road crowd.  We’re talking about a 4×4, UTV or ATV vehicle. What makes the Magellan eXplorist TRX7 suited for off-road use?  A few options.  First the device is rated as IP67 which means it’s protected against the effect of water up to one meter deep.  That means it’s weatherproof.  Note the term weatherproof. … Read more…

EDOTech Hardwire Cable for Garmin GPS Devices Review

EDOTech offers a good option for those wanting to hardwire their GPS to their vehicle.  The EDO Tech Hardwire Cable for Garmin GPS Devices fits almost all car GPS devices made by Garmin including the Garmin Nuvi and Garmin Drive product lines.  Although these are marketed towards Garmin GPS owners, these also fit most TomTom and Magellan GPS models made over the past several years.  As long as they use a mini USB, this should provide power to your GPS device.  These are made to work on car GPS devices, not one that are made for motorcycles such as the Garmin Zumo … Read more…

Magnetic GPS Mounts

The mount industry has finally warmed up to magnetic mounts.  We first wrote about magnetic mounts a few years ago and we were puzzled why there weren’t a bunch available.  The only ones that we knew of back then were from a company in Italy who charged quite a bit for these versus where the prices were for the non magnetic models.  We were big fans of magnetic mounts because of the ease in installing and removing your device from your car.  There’s nothing easier.  Well since we first discovered our first magnetic mount, things have changed and the industry has … Read more…

Keeping the Glare Off

Weatherproof GPS and iPhone Mounts for Motorcycles

Looking for a sealed weatherproof enclosure for your device on a motorcycle?  There’s not a lot of choices out there.  One excellent choice is to select the waterproof Garmin Zumo GPS series.  These are excellent GPS units, but let’s face it, $700 is a lot for a GPS.  The functionality of a Zumo is on par with many GPS models from Garmin, TomTom and Magellan in the $100 range. Why worry about weatherproof?  This is important for those that wish to leave the GPS attached to the bike overnight, or ride in the rain.  If you don’t do any of … Read more…
