Mounts for the Garmin Drive 51 and 61 2017 GPS Series

Well it looks like it’s time for the annual Garmin GPS refresh.  It used to be a semi-annual refresh but the GPS market has reached the point where there’s probably not enough new features to do it twice a year.  Couple that with the surge in smartphone GPS apps, and we’re down to an annual refresh.  In 2016, the Garmin Drive had put an end to the ten-year old Garmin Nuvi line of GPS units and Garmin has continued to use the naming standard for 2017.  This year, they have added 1 to the base number so we are looking at … Read more

Phone and GPS Mounts for a Jeep Compass

The Jeep Compass is your basic small to intermediate size SUV.  Basic except for the mounting options.  Lots of non-traditional design points like round vents, sloping windshield and a raised seat rail. Those design features do not typically bode well for mounting a tablet, GPS or phone.  That’s a photo of the dash accompanying this article.  While somewhat restricted in mounting locations, we were able to find some good locations for mounting mobile electronics. Good news is that a windshield mount will work fine for smartphone or GPS.  The next place I’ll recommend my go-to mount which is the Arkon MegaGrip … Read more

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Chevy Traverse

Like many SUVs on the market, the Chevy Traverse provides many options for mounting a GPS, phone or tablet.  The Chevy Traverse has a large interior and while there are a few locations that will not work, most places will work out just fine.  Good job Chevy. A photo of the interior of a Chevy Traverse accompanies this article.   The dash s large enough to access practically all popular locations that we typically recommend. A vent mount is probably the best for a phone or GPS.  The center vents in the Chevy Traverse are likely the best location.  The Square … Read more

Phone and GPS Mounts for a Nissan Rogue

It was time for maintenance on my new Nissan so that gave me some time to check the showroom at the dealership.  I wanted to take a close look at the Nissan Rogue.  It’s one of Nissan’s best sellers and gets great reviews.  The outside looks very similar to my Nissan Murano.  However the interior is more conventional.  Perhaps a little more compact.  Certainly not as many bazaar curves and slopes as the Murano.  That’s good news from a mounting perspective.  Lots of different places will work well in a Nissan Rogue but there were a few mounts and holders that … Read more

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Nissan Maxima

I recently had a chance to get a close look at the Nissan Maxima.  The Nissan Maxima has a very nice interior.  Lots of good places for a mount but I found a few locations that will not work. As always, a photo of the interior is attached to this article.  It’s a somewhat conventional design.  Having a Nissan Murano myself as my day-to-day vehicle, I was concerned about all the strange curves present in the Murano’s design.  Apparently, the Nissan Maxima designers were more on the normal side.  Not a lot of radical curves or lips. The most popular location for mounting … Read more

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Mazda CX-5 SUV

This week, I had the opportunity to drive a Mazda CX-5 SUV.  Nice size for an intermediate SUV.  Can’t say I’m a fan of the touch screen interface but there are a lot of good places to mount a phone, GPS or tablet. A photo of the interior of a Mazda CX-5 accompanies this article.  Decent size with the usual long reach to the windshield common to an SUV.  Normal horizontal vents and a long reach down to the cup holders.  So let’s scope out some mount options. The windshield is probably the best place to mount a phone.  My … Read more
