Motorcycle Mounts for the Garmin Nuvi GPS Line

When we first got involved with GPS mounts over ten years ago, we never dreamed of the market that existed for motorcycle mounts.  You would be amazed at the number of motorcycle mounts available and this category has been one that has not seen a decline.  Car GPS mounts are a declining market thanks to mobile phone apps and factory installed GPS systems which I think is a huge waste of money. There are many options available for putting a Nuvi on your bike.  Today we discuss the many options available for putting a Garmin Nuvi on your motorcycle. Before diving into … Read more

Waze Might be the Greatest GPS App Available

Most of our posts are about mounting stuff but after using Waze for the past month, thought it was worthwhile to pass a quick review of this incredible app on to our readers.  Waze is a GPS application available on IOS and Android.  What sets Waze apart from the hundreds of other GPS apps is the integration of maps, technology and community based feedback to provide a driving experience that will save you time and tickets.  I remember a company ten years ago that tried to do this using cell phone transmissions.  Needless to say, they didn’t last long as the … Read more

Old School Garmin GPS Car Mounts and Holders

I remember my first GPS.  It was a Garmin Streetpilot III GPS.  These were large units. About the size of an average human foot.  Garmin provided an adhesive dash mount which was actually a good mount.  I remember when I replaced this GPS with a new Garmin Nuvi 350, I liked the mount so much more than the suction variety, that I used it for the Nuvi as well.  That was what I would call an old school Garmin GPS car mount. Back in the days of my old Garmin Streetpilot III GPS, the only company that made mounts for a … Read more

Using a GPS in California or Minnesota

What do the states of Minnesota and California have in common?  Tick tick tick tick… Give up?  Up until fairly recently, it was illegal to put a GPS on your windshield in those states.  Imagine buying a new GPS with the suction mount and getting pulled over a few days later for using the mount in the box.  We got all kinds of stories from people after their wallet was $100 lighter and sold a lot of vent, cup holder and dash mounts as a result.  Fortunately, these two holdouts have now joined the rest of the country in permitting attachment … Read more

Mounts for Vertical Vents

We have been asking about mounts that will fit on vertical vents for many years and there are finally enough out there for us to discuss.  Most cars have vent slots that go across versus up and down and almost all vent mounts are made primarily for horizontal vents.  The reason for this is that vent mount use a clip that grabs onto the horizontal slat.  They are not made for verticals.  We have run into a few car models where the vertical slats were spaced at the same width as the vent arms and they fit ok, but for most vertical … Read more

GPS and Cell Phone Mounts for Trucks and Rigs

Today we will discuss GPS and Cell Phone mounts for trucks and rigs.  Mounting a device in a truck has unique requirements that differ from placing it in a car.  A truck has a much deeper reach to the windshield so a basic suction cup mount will prove to be inconvenient. Thinking about the suction cup mount furnished with most GPS units, these are a few inches long at best.  It’s difficult for a truck driver to reach forward that far so a suction mount that’s really long is what’s needed.  I have also found that truckers are more receptive to … Read more
