Garmin Rino Mounts for the Car, Boat or Handlebar

I remember the Garmin Rino 110 when it was first introduced about ten years ago.  It was a unique product combining two-way radio and GPS capabilities.  Interestingly enough, the Garmin Rino is still a viable device.  Garmin has updated it several times with the latest Garmin Rino 755t having a three-inch color screen and features such as weather reports and a waterproof rating of IPX7. The interesting thing about the Garmin Rino is that the basic shape hasn’t changed very much.  Some of the mounts available for the current series even fit the older ones.  We will look at a … Read more…

Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx Mounts for Boats, Cars and Other Places

One of the longest life Garmin model series I have seen was the old GPSMAP series from over ten years ago.  The initial marketing was for marine use.  The devices doubled as a car GPS and marine chartplotter.  Soon, they also began to show up in cars and even on handlebars.  A lot of these devices are in use today and that’s probably why they introduced the Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx.  It’s probably time for an upgrade if still using a GPS from over ten years ago so why not stick with the beloved GPSMAP series. The new Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx … Read more…

Mounts for the Garmin Striker 4 and Striker 4cv Fishfinder

The Garmin Striker 4 and Striker 4cv was recently introduced to fill the lower priced market.  When I compare the Garmin Striker 4 to what one would purchase a few years ago, it’s an amazing difference.  Much more features for the price, color screen, smaller footprint plus a way lower cost. From a pure mounting perspective, the Garmin Striker 4 and Striker 4cv are the same.  From a feature point of view, the Striker 4cv has  ClearVu technology which provides a more complete view of what’s below your boat.  The better view comes at a higher price.  If you are … Read more…

Car and Motorcycle Mounts for an Old Navigon GPS

I became a big fan of Navigon about ten years ago.  Their software and hardware was ahead of the rest.  That included Garmin, TomTom and Magellan.  There must have been something to it because Garmin purchased Navigon in 2011.  They quickly discontinued Navigon hardware but integrated some of their unique software features into today’s GPS, especially around the traffic views on the Garmin Nuvi and Drive GPS. Although you can’t buy a new Navigon GPS, you can purchase their iOS or Android apps.  I see the iOS app available for around $50.  Never tried it as I’m a fan of Waze … Read more…

Mounts for the Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 Action Camera

Garmin has become a major player in the action camera market.  The Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 is more proof of their commitment to this market. The Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 delivers an impressive an ultra HD 4K footage at 30 frames per second and an HD 1080p image at a pretty amazing 120 frames per second.  Going back a year or two ago, 1080p at 30 frames per second was the best you could get. The Garmin VIRB Ultra 30 incorporates features that you would expect from Garmin.  Namely GPS capabilities.  What can you do with these capabilities?  You have access to connectivity to Garmin devices to capture … Read more…

How to Attach a GoPro to a Garmin GPS Mount

There are millions of Garmin Nuvi GPS devices out there.  That implies there are millions of Garmin GPS Mounts. Over the past few years, smartphones have become very proficient at doubling as a GPS.  So much so that many GPS owners have abandoned their Garmin GPS for a smartphone running Waze or Google Maps.  When that happens, yet another Garmin GPS mount is orphaned and in need of a device to hold. Some Garmin mounts are fairly good and make nice GoPro camera mounts.  No reason to buy an expensive customer mount when your old Garmin GPS mount has a … Read more…
