Kayak Track Mount Systems for Rod Holders and Transducers

Kayak track mount systems are a fairly recent introduction to the marine community.  Kayak track mount systems are useful for mounting fishing gear such as a rod holder, transducer arms, or even electronics.  There are two main advantages to kayak track mount systems.  First is ease of installation.  Tracks are attached to the top side of the kayak.  Accessories like rod holders are then attached easily to the kayak.  The second advantage is ease of adjustment.  If you install a long track, the rod holder, transducer arm, or electronic accessory can be mounted anywhere along the full length of the … Read more

Transducer Mounts

Mounting a transducer properly is critically important to optimal usage.  You will want to be sure the transducer is installed at the waterline.  The more air between your transducer and the water, the less effective it will be in detecting what’s below your boat.  So let’s talk about transducer mounts. Mount Analysis Most transducers come with a basic mounting kit.  The majority of transducers sold include a transom mounting kit which is used to attach the device to the back of the boat.  Typically, these are the easiest to install and remove.  These are the best for most trailered boats. … Read more

Marine Radio Antenna Mounts

We haven’t written about mounts for marine purposes in awhile so today we have an article on marine radio antenna mounts.  These are mounts made for external antennas for VHF radios. Before selecting a marine radio antenna mount, there are a few basic things to consider.  First off, hopefully you already have your antenna selected.  Be sure the thread pattern is going to match the mount.  Most antennas use a 1″ – 14 thread pattern.  Most antennas have a female ending and the mounts have a male ending.  You just screw the antenna onto the mount.  Also, take notice of the length … Read more

Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx Mounts for Boats, Cars and Other Places

One of the longest life Garmin model series I have seen was the old GPSMAP series from over ten years ago.  The initial marketing was for marine use.  The devices doubled as a car GPS and marine chartplotter.  Soon, they also began to show up in cars and even on handlebars.  A lot of these devices are in use today and that’s probably why they introduced the Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx.  It’s probably time for an upgrade if still using a GPS from over ten years ago so why not stick with the beloved GPSMAP series. The new Garmin GPSMAP 276Cx … Read more

Phone Mounts for Boats and Marine Applications

Phone mounts for boats and marine applications is a topic I thought would be appropriate now that the warm months have arrived here in New Jersey.  The idea for this article came from a friend that was telling me the story of how he had an iPhone stuck in his shirt pocket and bent over the side of the boat to bring in a fish and you can guess what happened next.  That’s right, his iPhone is now at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean.  He admitted to me that was one of the dumbest things he has ever done … Read more
