Police Scanner Car Mounts and Holders

A police scanner is used to catch the action from local police departments.  Several years ago, these were fairly inexpensive because none of the transmissions were scrambled.  Today, it’s a bit different as many local frequencies are scrambled and require a more expensive police scanner to decode the scrambling. Police scanners come in many different sizes.  The sizes range from full tabletop to a handheld device.  Most police scanners come in the smaller handheld size.  This article will cover police scanner car mounts for the smaller handheld models. There isn’t such a thing as a custom mount for a police scanner. … Read more…

Home Mounts and Tripods for Foscam Pan and Tilt Cameras

My first purchase of this brand was the Foscam FI8910W Indoor Pan/Tilt Wi-Fi Camera.  A good camera to customize but somewhat difficult to work with.  Unlike consumer oriented cameras such as a Nest Cam, these are made for customers with an IT background.  It’s not something that you can intuitively setup and get working out of the box without reading the instructions.  Even after reading the instructions, you need to poke around the internet to find things out. Many owners of these cameras are unaware of the presence of a mounting screw hole on the bottom of the camera.  Turn the … Read more…

Apple iPhone 7 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus Car and Motorcycle Mounts

The Apple iPhone 7 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus are now available.  That means it’s time for our semi-annual article on mounts to fit the latest and greatest iPhone model. The most notable change, and it’s one that I’m  not a fan of is the elimination of the 3.5 mm headphone jack.  Sure, you can use a Bluetooth headset, but some would prefer not to.  While Apple provides a 3.5 mm to Lightning port adapter, that eliminates the ability to use a headphone jack and charge it at the same time.  I guess this makes it easier to mount the … Read more…

Attachments for Brodit ProClip Vehicle Specific Mounts

ProClip is a line of vehicle specific mounts made by a company called Brodit.  ProClip is one of a few lines of mounts that are made to provide a somewhat custom fit within a vehicle.  The ProClip line of mounts include those with suction cups and a few other places.  For purposes of this article, we are only discussing attachments for the vehicle specific lineup.  These are the ones that attach to the dash. ProClip vehicle specific mounts are a one piece solution that attaches somewhere onto the dash.  Unlike some other vehicle specific mounts that require dismantling the dash, the … Read more…

Phone Mounts for a Baby Stroller

Phone mounts for baby strollers.  Great idea.  It’s difficult to push a stroller with one hand while holding your phone with the other hand.  Sure, you can go straight, but turns are a real problem.  Mounting a phone to a stroller puts it where you can see it.  Now turns are much easier. So that’s the purpose of this article.  We’re going to discuss a few good options for mounting your smartphone to a stroller or (for old school readers), a baby carriage.  We’re going to talk about places to put it for the adult driver of the stroller, not … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Toyota 4Runner

I travel a lot and rent all kinds of cars.  Today, the good folks are Budget Car Rental were good enough to upgrade me a Toyota 4Runner.  That means its time for a vehicle specific article on how to mount a cell phone, tablet or GPS in a Toyota 4Rrunner. A photo of the interior of a Toyota 4Runner accompanies this article.  It’s a fairly spacious interior with a fit of a further reach to the windshield.  Nice flat dash but not overly deep which will limit use as a mounting location.  Normal horizontal vents are present.  The cup holder placement is … Read more…
