Mounts for Suzuki Hayabusa Motorcycles

Suzuki HayabusaThe Suzuki Hayabusa (or GSX1300R) has been manufactured since 1999. These are categorized as a sport bike and they are known for going really really fast.  Mounting your favorite mobile electronics on these machines is a bit challenging because there is little to none handlebar space to attach anything too.  While handlebar mounts are good for the vast majority of motorcycles, they aren’t going to work well (if at all) on a Suzuki Hayabusa.  No worries though, as there are other locations that can serve the purpose on these bikes.

There are two good location on a Hayabusa that make good mounting points.  The first location we will discuss is the stem which is located directly in front of the triple tree.  We will take a closer look at a few different mounting kits that include everything needed to mount a phone or GPS.  The second location supported is the clutch controls.  There are a few bolts that hold it into place and mounting kits include the metric bolts which are a little longer than the current ones.  The replacement bolts attach through holes on the mount then replace the current ones.  Both are good secure attachments.  Not too difficult if you are a little handy working on your bike.  If you don’t feel comfortable doing the work, then go to a professional and have it done.

The Techmount Fork Stem Mount Kit comes with a series of different attachments to fit the stem hole on your motorcycle.  The universal stem mount system comes equipped with six stem shafts with varying diameters, each being a different diameter to fit virtually all-steering stem holes.  Select the right size for your stem and slide it down into the top of the fork steering stem. The stem adapter includes an O-ring, which progressively gets tighter as you slide it slides it into the stem shaft, keeping your device attached securely to your motorcycle.

The Techmount Motorcycle Control Mounting Kit has the base and bolts needed to attach to your bike.  These attach to the handlebar control clamps (clutch or brake side). As mentioned earlier, these come with new stainless bolts and spacers which will replace the two factory pinch bolts already in place.

Ironically, both of these mount kits feature a 17mm ball at the end which is the same size used by a Garmin Nuvi GPS cradle.  So for many GPS units, this might be all that is required.  If you would like to add a universal phone cradle to this mount, there are many options.  The Techmount TechGripper is a spring-loaded cradle that opens to four-inches.  The back of the cradle has a socket which snaps onto the 17mm ball that is part of each of these mount kits.  The result is a real tight grip on your smartphone.  By the way, we always recommend that your smartphone use a good case to prevent any residual damage from small stones popping up off the roadway.  It’s a small investment to protect your expensive phone.  We also recommend that you tether your device whenever possible for added safety.

Another excellent manufacturer of motorcycle mounts is RAM.  We like their mounts for the lifetime warranty and metal construction.  The RAM Fork Stem X-Grip Mount is a well made accessory that fits smartphones up to 3.25 inches wide.  We wrote extensively about the X-Grip lineup in an earlier article.  The mount has a cone which is cut to fit the diameter of your fork stem.  The mount works on a ball and socket principle (note the ball is a one inch diameter and will not fit a Garmin Nuvi cradle).  There are adjustment points at the base and cradle.  The components are made of metal.

The RAM Clutch and Brake Reservoir X-Grip Mount fits similarly to the previously mentioned manufacturer.  It also includes replacement bolts and has that excellent X-Grip cradle to fit your phone.  Both of these mounts from RAM carry a lifetime warranty.  The RAM Mounts include a 3-inch arm so these will stand a bit higher off your clutch and stem plus offer a bit more adjustment options given the ball and socket at both the base and the cradle.
