The Petcube Camera is a WiFi home security camera marketed to pet owners. The Petcube provides many of the features of a home security camera with the added bonus of an integrated laser pointer. Entertain your cat or scare the heck out of guests with this feature. You can activate and move it from anywhere in the world. For a lot more information on this camera, read the Petcube Camera Review: A Home Security Camera for Pets.
Out of the box, the Petcube is designed to sit on a desk or shelf. It’s a fairly large camera measuring in at 4 x 4 x 4 inches and weighing over a pound. A drawback is that the camera is recessed within the enclosure halfway up. This provides an excellent view of the shelf in front of it as a result.
Fortunately, the Petcube has a standard 1/4″ – 20 threaded tripod screw hole on the bottom of the camera. This is good news. You can use many tripods and camera mounts for your Petcube. The excessive weight and size mean that some camera mounts will not work. You will need a heavy duty mount when pairing it with this camera. An adjustable mount or tripod will is needed.
So, let’s look at some home mounts and tripods for the Petcube.
First, consider the Ravelli APLT4 61-inch Light Weight Aluminum Tripod With Bag which works well with the Petcube. Just screw the Petcube onto the tripod and adjust the head to the right angle. If you are going to use this traditional tripod, place it in an area where your pet isn’t likely to knock it over. You probably don’t need to worry about a cat knocking it over, but dogs are a lot heavier and clumsy. The camera is easy to install and remove from the tripod. Just a matter of turning it so the tripod screw engages.
Treating the Petcube as a home security camera opens up an entire category of camera mounts. I like to recommend the Arkon Camera Wall Mount for CCTV POV Camcorders Cameras for heavy cameras that need support from the bottom. This is a wall mount. Attach this metal mount to a wall and use the three adjustment points to get the proper angle. If you don’t mind drilling some holes in a wall, this is by far the best mount for the Petcube in my opinion. Unlike placing the camera on a table, it sits unobstructed perched to this mount. Nothing will get in the way of the wide-angle lens providing an unobstructed view of the action.
The RAM Mount Twist Lock Suction Cup Mount for Cameras is a mount for use on smooth flat surfaces that aren’t porous. This mount is great for attaching to glass or metal (not for a wall). There is a heavy duty 3.3 inch locking suction cup and two adjustment points. The camera adapter has a nice wide 2.5 inch support base for your camera. You can even use this on a glass table top to give the Petcube a badly needed boost upwards to avoid getting the edge of the table in the video. This mount has a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer.
Any of these three mounts will enhance the completeness of the video on the Petcube. All are well made and support the screw hole on the bottom of the Petcube.
