Garmin RV 760LMT GPS Mounts

Garmin RV 760LMT GPS MountsOver the past few years, Garmin has really embraced the specialty GPS market.  It makes sense since smartphones with GPS applications such as Waze making a major dent in the personal navigation device market.  So here’s the latest foray into the specialty market:  the Garmin RV 760LMT.  This is a GPS made for RV owners with features that are important to that specialty market.

The Garmin RV 760LMT includes free lifetime maps and a traffic subscription.  The GPS features a big 7″ screen which is the largest made by Garmin for the automotive market.  The GPS includes customized RV routing for the United States and Canada and includes America’s RV Parks & Services Directory.  Like most of Garmin’s higher end models, this GPS includes Voice Commands, Bluetooth and Smartphone Link which along with a smartphone app will load up the location of where you parked and Garmin Live Services.

Getting to mounts in a bit, I always mention the all important traffic subscription and how it’s tied into your car charger.  That’s right, the car charger.  So don’t lose it.  If you do lose it, don’t try to replace it with a basic car charger because while it may power your device, the traffic will not work.  You will need to buy a Garmin traffic cable with a brand new subscription.  I know of too many people over the years that left the cable and the mount in a rental car and replacing both can cost as much as the rental car bill.

Mount Analysis

So let’s discuss the mounts.  The RV 760LMT mounting design is similar to the other mounts that Garmin has made available to the automotive market for more than ten years using a ball and socket design.  This cradle fits over a 17mm ball which is part of the mount.  The Garmin RV 760LMT shares the magnetic cradle and mount with the a few other Garmin 7″ GPS models.  I really like this cradle as it’s much faster to align the magnetic mount with the GPS.  Easy and fast to insert and remove your GPS.  The cradle is easily removed from the mount by simply pulling it off and pushing it on.  The back of the cradle has a 17mm socket which can be used with many other mount offerings.

The default mount that is provided with the GPS is the typical Garmin suction cup except the neck is a little longer than a smaller 5″ screen model.  This is the same mounting suction cup base that Garmin has used for roughly the past ten years (they changed the cradle, not the base mount).  Garmin also includes an adhesive disk for those that wish to use it on the dashboard.  This adhesive dash disk is especially useful if you are planning to drive in a state like California where windshield mounting might not be legal.

Mount Recommendations

If your suction cup has failed, read our article on reviving it here.

If after reading the article, it’s still failing but the cradle is still good, replace it with a good quality mount like the Arkon Suction Cup Mount for Garmin GPS Devices.  These Arkon mounts come with a 2-year warranty and these stick real well.  Like the Garmin mount, the Arkon brand comes with an adhesive dashboard disk as well.  This mount is depicted in the photo that accompanies this article.

As already mentioned, this GPS is marketed to the RV crowd.  The windshield in a RV can be a far reach to the driver so a longer suction mount might be called for. This Suction Cup Extension Mount is a longer mount that is an excellent choice.  It extends to almost 6 inches.  The arm connects to a variety of included adapters for the the majority of Garmin models.  This features the 17mm ball that is needed.  Just remove the cradle from the current car mount and snap onto this mount.

If you would prefer not to mount this GPS on the windshield, that’s ok, there are a lot of other mounts that permit alternative locations within your vehicle.

The dashboard is a very popular place to put your GPS.  For many years, the Garmin Bean Bag Dashboard Mount has been the answer to customers that prefer a different location.  It’s a heavy mount with a non skid bottom and has that 17mm ball built in to fit the socket on the back of your cradle.  If you would like to read more on this mount, we did a detailed article on this mount awhile back.
