The Motorola Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus were both introduced in May of 2016. Both phones implement a powerful Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. The Motorola Moto G4 comes with 2GB of RAM and the more expensive Moto G4 Plus has 4GB. The cameras are decent with a 13MP lens on the Motorola Moto G4 and 16MP Moto G4 Plus. When you get to these large of MP, I’m not too sure the average person can really tell the difference.
With a nice large 5.5 inch diagonal measured screen using Corning Gorilla Glass 3, both phones measure the same at 6.02 x 3.02 x 0.39 inches (153 x 76.6 x 9.8 mm). These important measurements are what’s needed to select a mount. A universal mount is needed for these phones as there aren’t any custom cradles that I know of. You will need a mount with a large expandable cradle, especially if you are using a case or skin which is always recommended. For those that have purchased a universal mount to hold your older phone, hopefully it opens wide enough to hold your new device without a problem.
Let’s go on to the mount discussion.
For the car, give the location of your mount some thought. There are lots of places to mount your Motorola Moto G4 or Moto G4 Plus. The windshield is the most popular location to mount especially if you plan to use it as a GPS with my favorite application which is Waze. We are big fans and have personal positive experience with the Arkon Megagrip Suction Cup Mount. This mount has an expandable cradle which expands to 3.4 inches by pressing the button at the lower left corner. This will fit your phone with or without a case. The mount comes with an adhesive dash plate so that you can attach to the mount to your dash as well as your windshield. This dash disk is handy for states that do not permit windshield mounts which we documented in a recent article.
Arkon also makes a very formidable Arkon Megagrip Car Cup Holder Mount that includes the same cradle. This is a nice alternative to traditional windshield mounting. This fits almost all cup holders and features a flexible neck to help get the right angle. The base expands by turning the flywheel to enable the mount to fit larger cup holders.
My personal favorite location for a phone is the car air vent. The Spigen Magnetic Vent Mount for SmartPhones is an excellent choice for your vent. This mount can be used on horizontal and vertical vents. Right around eye level and out of the way of potential thieves, the vent is a good location for mounting a lightweight device. Check your vent to make sure it’s well made enough to hang a lightweight device. A recent innovation is mounts is the use of a small magnet coupled with a very thin adhesive metal disk which sticks to the back of your phone. The great thing about magnetic mounts is the simple process for install and removal. It’s a simple matter of simply matching up where the metal strip is to the magnet.
For motorcycle use, it’s important that you select a mount that has a well constructed cradle that is going to hold your Motorola Moto G4 or Moto G4 Plus very tightly so that it stays put through the vibration of a ride. We continue to recommend the RAM X-Grip line. These are heavy-duty mounts that are mostly constructed of metal and feature a lifetime warranty. The mount has gone through some rigorous shake tests and holds up well on a motorcycle. We wrote about X-Grips extensively on this site and you can view that article here.
Most motorcycles can use the RAM X-Grip IV Handlebar Mount. These mounts feature the expandable X-Grip IV cradle which can open to 4.5 inches which is large enough for most cases. This handlebar mount fits diameters up to 1.25 inches and are made of metal. RAM now includes a safety tether with these mounts. We always recommend tethering your device for added security. The manufacturer has a lifetime warranty on these mounts.
