Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for an Acura MDX

Most SUVs are easy to mount a mobile device within and the Acura MDX is a typical SUV.  I owned an Acura MDX for almost eight years and it was a great car.  One of the easier SUVs to mount a cell phone, tablet or GPS.  Lots of space.  Except for perhaps the dash, no unusual curves or bumps.  Lots of different places will work well in an Acura MDX but there were a few mounts and holders that simply won’t work.  Especially on the dashboard. We always try to have a photo of the interior accompany our vehicle specific articles.  A photo of … Read more…

How to Attach a GoPro to a Garmin GPS Mount

There are millions of Garmin Nuvi GPS devices out there.  That implies there are millions of Garmin GPS Mounts. Over the past few years, smartphones have become very proficient at doubling as a GPS.  So much so that many GPS owners have abandoned their Garmin GPS for a smartphone running Waze or Google Maps.  When that happens, yet another Garmin GPS mount is orphaned and in need of a device to hold. Some Garmin mounts are fairly good and make nice GoPro camera mounts.  No reason to buy an expensive customer mount when your old Garmin GPS mount has a … Read more…

Mounts for a Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Motorcycle

The Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail is one of the nicest ones I have seen.  I’m sure that I’ll get a lot disagreement on that, but to me, it’s the perfect balance of chrome and black.  It’s also one of the easiest to mount a cell phone, GPS or camera to.  So, here’s our article about mounts and holders for a Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail motorcycle. The photo that accompanies this article is of a Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail cockpit.  You can see there is a lot of different places to mount a cell phone, GPS, camera or satellite radio.  The handlebar is an obvious … Read more…

Phone and GPS Mounts for Round Vents

I used to think that mounting stuff onto a vertical vent was the most difficult of locations.  I forgot about round vents.  You find these in a minority of cars.  Vents are a great place to mount a smartphone or GPS.  It’s right around your normal eye level yet below the spot where a bad guy could see it so the location helps to minimize device theft. So what’s the problem with round vents?  Take a look at the photo.  That’s a Mazda Miata.  They have round vents.  The vents are small and have a little knob in the middle … Read more…

Mounts for a Harley-Davidson Street Bob Motorcycle

The Harley-Davidson Street Bob is a motorcycle that caught my eye as I was trawling through a Harley showroom a few weeks back.  Not overly expensive and fairly minimal in design and accessories, this is a fairly easy motorcycle to mount mobile electronics to. The photo that accompanies this article is of a Harley-Davidson Street Bob cockpit.  The first thing that hits me is all that handlebar space.  That’s the best place to mount a phone, GPS, camera or drink holder.  The clutch is fairly high up because of the handlebar shape so I’m recommending the handlebar mount.  I think the … Read more…

Car and Motorcycle Mounts for the Motorola Moto G4 and G4 Plus

The Motorola Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus were both introduced in May of 2016.  Both phones implement a powerful Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and quad-core 1.2 GHz Cortex-A53 processor.  The Motorola Moto G4 comes with 2GB of RAM and the more expensive Moto G4 Plus has 4GB.  The cameras are decent with a 13MP lens on the Motorola Moto G4 and 16MP Moto G4 Plus.  When you get to these large of MP, I’m not too sure the average person can really tell the difference. With a nice large 5.5 inch diagonal measured screen using Corning Gorilla Glass 3, both phones measure the same at … Read more…

Can You Replace a Garmin Zumo with a Smartphone?

Can you replace a Garmin Zumo with a smartphone?  That’s a question that most never thought it would be possible to ask.  But as you will see as this article progresses, it’s possible.  Not only is it possible but a lot of people are doing it. At a recent motorcycle rally, I checked out a few thousand bikes.  The number of motorcycles with a smartphone mount outnumbered those with a Garmin Zumo mount.  I was surprised by this, and that’s how I got the idea to write this article. First, let’s look at the advantages of a dedicated motorcycle GPS like a … Read more…

Phone, GPS and Tablet Mounts for a Mazda Miata

I have a friend with a Mazda Miata and while I can’t possibly fit in it, she seems to like it a lot.  The Mazda Miata is a small convertible that (in my opinion) is better suited for people other than really tall or really wide.  It has a small interior.  Not an easy car to mount a phone, GPS or tablet within. This isn’t an easy task.  The vents are small and round with narrow slats, there aren’t any useful cup holders and it’s too small of a car for a seat bolt mount. The windshield is the best … Read more…
